If someone in your family doesn't like roast dinners... what are they having tomorrow?

Dd (nearly 4) will eat some bits of a roast - Yorkshire puddings and pigs in blankets, but wouldn't eat a roast. Last year she had cottage pie (she will eat veg if it's all mixed in but not if it's separate on the plate Hmm).

This year she's asked for macaroni cheese with peas and pigs in blankets on the side 😂

What do your non-roast eating family eat?

Steak pie with roast potatoes, cauliflower and Yorkshire puddings. None of my four children likes roast dinners much, so that's what we are all having.

mumofftwo · 24/12/2019 11:05

My 4 year old has asked for plain pasta she dosent like anything on a roast wont even attempt it so going to keep the peace and give her it so she is at least eating something other then sweets and chocolate

mindutopia · 24/12/2019 11:08

Neither of mine particularly love roast dinners (7&2). They’re having the usual Christmas dinner. They’ll eat the bits they do like. If they don’t eat much of anything, they won’t starve. They’ll make up for it in cheese and biscuits later in the afternoon.

Fussy (and I mean fussy) 7yo will have Turkey, mini sausages [we all prefer chippolatas to pigs in blankets], potato waffle and gravy. No veg, no stuffing, no delicious roasties. Pisses me right off but I think there are actually sensory issues at play on top of him being a fussy beggar.

ProseccoLush · 24/12/2019 11:20

We are not fans of turkey though we do all like a roast dinner. However, Christmas Day is whatever the kids special request is so this year it’s whole roast Chinese Duck with pancakes and side dishes. Yummy!

RandomMess · 24/12/2019 11:21

We have a random buffet where everyone has asked for what they like

Arthritica · 24/12/2019 11:26

Eldest is having a pizza

Guiltypleasures001 · 24/12/2019 11:37

Tesco's finest chicken Parmesan with pesto stuffing and chunky chips meal deal
Drives me nuts every year, I pity any future partner, never used to be like this

TheTinselrati · 24/12/2019 11:40

My DC wanted sushi 🍣😀.
Thankfully they are at their dads for Christmas.

MarianaMoatedGrange · 24/12/2019 11:41

Macaroni cheese with pigs and peas sounds delish!

ExpletiveFairylighted · 24/12/2019 11:41

Pasta and tomato sauce, maybe a bit of turkey.

LadyCordeliaVorkosigan · 24/12/2019 11:42

Ds age 12 has ARFID and is looking forward to a plate of Yorkshire puddings with ketchup, followed by Yule log. He may have a potato if he doesn't get stressed. Possibly will touch a cocktail sausage.

The rest of us will enjoy most of the usual fare. Plus Yorkshires, seeing as they're there.

MerryDeath · 24/12/2019 11:44

no fussy people allowed (I'm not cooking, but if i was, they get what I'm making inc children)

isseywith4vampirecats · 24/12/2019 11:45

my four year old grandson will probably have a Yorkshire pudding pigs in blankets, dairylee cheeses spread and ritz crackers

funkystars123 · 24/12/2019 11:48

My 11yr old daughter is having a ready meal macaroni cheese! She has ASD and it is her favourite food so why not?!

There will also be a lot of smoked salmon, brioche, chocolate and she has baked a pudding with 8 different puddings, she won't eat it but loved cooking it!!

oreosoreosoreos · 24/12/2019 11:49

DS (6) will eat the pate for starter, then a v small amount of turkey (breast, has to be plain, no dark meat Hmm), one Yorkshire pudding and a small spoonful of stuffing.

He is a fussy bugger, who primarily exists on fresh air! I think it's karma, as both me and DH were exactly the same at his age!

MrsJBaptiste · 24/12/2019 11:49

We're really not bothered about roast dinners here, on Sundays or at Christmas so we're all having a curry. Our local one is amazing and is open for the afternoon so whilst we can't eat in (I think they've been fully booked since August!) we'll get a takeaway and stuff our faces!

ElfAndSafeKey · 24/12/2019 11:51

The bits they like and snack from the heroes tin and Pringles if hungry.
It's stressful enough without making complex alternatives.
Nephew normally has a plate of veg and stuffing.

BiddyPop · 24/12/2019 11:55

Dd won’t eat most roast meats (beef, lamb, pork) but likes turkey so will have a small bit.

I need to make desperate mashed potatoes (I’m peeling them anyway) and plain boiled carrots as well as roasted ones (again, peeling anyway).

I might get asked to do some mushrooms as a 2nd veg for her, or sweet corn (from a tin) - I can get her to do them herself at this stage (14), but I definitely want her to have an enjoyable meal as well as us.

When faced with reality, she will probably take a roast potato from the bowl on the table, maybe some roast veg, and probably some extra turkey as there will be lots of gravy. Because I am not expecting her to eat it.

The joys of (trying to) managing a teenage mind.....

BiddyPop · 24/12/2019 11:55

Separate - there’s nothing desperate about my mashed potatoes!! 😳

bookmum08 · 24/12/2019 12:07

For convenience I am having a microwave pasta ready meal with some cheese and tomato flatbread. I don't believe anyone should ever have to eat food they don't like.

TeachesOfPeaches · 24/12/2019 12:09

Just me and my 4 year old tomorrow and we are having his favourite- bangers and mash Grin

5LeafClover · 24/12/2019 12:16

Full size sausages and lots of Yorkshire puddings.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 24/12/2019 12:16

There are 11 of us tomorrow, from age nine months to 89 years old. We'll be eating cashew nut roast (not the baby) and spinach/feta filo pie, with all vegetables as usual, bread/cranberry sauce and vegetarian gravy. The only one unhappy about this is my brother, but attendance is optional.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 24/12/2019 12:18

Mine are funny with roast dinners, sometimes they'll eat it sometimes they won't.
Christmas dinner has enough different bits that they can help themselves to what they do want and leave bits they don't.
Pigs in blankets, stuffing balls in blankets. If nothing else they eat those and my one rule on Christmas day is - have what you want!
