Currently on hour 2 of an argument with DF...I say because their Big Day is the 24th then it’s today, he says because Christmas is universally known as the 25th, then tomorrow.

Yorkshire puddings with Christmas dinner currently ride on this so it’s a big deal!

Today I'd say...

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 24/12/2019 09:57

I would say so too! Thank you!

On the continent it’s definitely today!

TheCrookedHorse · 24/12/2019 09:59

Today.

chomalungma · 24/12/2019 10:00

n the continent it’s definitely today

So has Father Christmas visited already?

Selfsettling3 · 24/12/2019 10:02

I always wish my Norwegian friend Merry Christmas Eve today as she celebrates tonight.

VirtualHamster · 24/12/2019 10:04

The 24th, but towards the evening rather than first thing in the morning

Glædelig Jul

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 24/12/2019 10:07

So if I text friend in denmark around 5pm rather then now, that’s the way to do it?

I should also say, not only does the loser have to make the Yorkshire’s but they have to go and get the ingredients at 3.30pm from Sainsbury’s

We were both convinced we were right and now I’m smug as fuck

We celebrated in the evening of Christmas eve continuing into Christmas day.

Toomboom · 24/12/2019 10:11

Christmas Eve. I have Norwegian family and they do their Christmas today. They have a meal tonight and then towards midnight exchange presents.

theoriginalmadambee · 24/12/2019 10:12

Denmark here 👋. Texting around 5 should be okay, if they have little children perhaps even earlier.

And tell your df he has lost the plot. Universally known - Ha Grin

theoriginalmadambee · 24/12/2019 10:14

Sorry posted too soon, a merry Christmas to you and your df 😀🎄.

Apolloanddaphne · 24/12/2019 10:19

Our Finnish relatives wish us Merry Christmas on Christmas Eve and send a picture of them tucking into their festive dinner.

sonjadog · 24/12/2019 10:21

Tonight is the big night in Norway. I would text around 3pm if I were you. 5pm is more likely to be right in the middle of the celebration.

wowfudge · 24/12/2019 10:22

@chomalunga I can't comment on the Nordic countries, but in Spain today is when Christmas is celebrated. Presents are brought by the three Kings on 6th January.

sojo44 · 24/12/2019 10:24

I'm Finnish Swedish, we celebrate this evening (24th). Christmas dinner first and then presents.

sonjadog · 24/12/2019 10:31

We do church at 4pm - then dinner - then presents and Santa stops by.

trickyex · 24/12/2019 10:37

Yup CHristmas Eve in Scandinavia

teablanket · 24/12/2019 10:38

This evening/tonight, for sure!

Bostonbullsmumma · 24/12/2019 10:42

My cousin in Norway told me the other day that they do stockings on the morning of 24th so today and then Santa comes (someone dressed up!) this evening (early evening I think) when the children are awake and gives them presents!

HazelShade · 24/12/2019 10:43

I'm Norwegian. Christmas technically begins at 5pm tonight. That's when advent ends and Christmas begins in the liturgical sense, and most Norwegians still see it this way. Wishing someone Merry Christmas this evening would be totally normal. God Jul!

Kolo · 24/12/2019 10:43

I'm in Denmark at the moment and everyone has been saying gleadelig (English keyboard, soz to Danes) jul for the last couple of days. But we're celebrating main event this evening. The kids are very confused as to when Santa is coming, but the Danes don't seem to know either. I'm winging it.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 24/12/2019 11:25

He’s admitted “he might be wrong!” It’s a Christmas miracle!

Can I text them now or is that way to early and I’ll look like a fool?!

Now is just fine Smile.

Mendingfences · 24/12/2019 13:22

We "ring in" Christmas at 5pm Norwegian time today (at least where i live, traditions may vary) so 4pm uk time today but definitely today.
