When i went to bed at 10ish last night his temp was right down at 36.5.

He didnt go to sleep til around 9. Up at 5.15 temp of high 38s.

We tried ibuprofen but he coughed and a fair lot came back out/up. And now hes upset and wont take anything.

I need this temp to come down.

We have the number for the ward but i dont want to waste their time. And im also a little scared.

What can i do?

Are there two of you there? Pin him down.

MummaGiles · 24/12/2019 05:49

Can you bribe him with something to take it? A little bit of chocolate or something?

cjt110 · 24/12/2019 05:51

Husband is getting up. I think we will have to pin him down. Bribery wont work. Ive tried that. Even the scare tactic that if he doesnt take it we will end up back in hospital

Strip off his clothes. Cool bath.

Calm him down and then try again with Calpol.

No need for hospital when the only symptom is a temperature.

foamrolling · 24/12/2019 05:55

Could you just use other methods and let him calm down a bit? Just make sure the room is cool and strip him off a bit. Give him a cold drink and let him lie quietly. Maybe once he's calmed a bit try the calpol again.

I sit mine down in front of the tv with a bowl of ice to eat/play with. We've been battling temperatures of over 39 all week so you have my sympathy

Chefwifelife · 24/12/2019 06:05

Sorry to disagree but NHS advice is definitely not to try and cool them down with water or a bath as it can actually increase core temp.

I currently have my 29mo asleep on me who has a fever too and we have been managing it for 3 days with neurofen or calpol.

I feel for you op. What ward number do you have?

Wildboar · 24/12/2019 06:15

Why do you have the ward number? Does he have a complex medical history or have you just been inpatient?

Cantchooseaname · 24/12/2019 06:20

Can you mix the calpol in something?
If you are going for the ‘by force’ option, no it in little squirts from syringe into back of cheek- otherwise whole lot can be spat back at you. Voice of bitter experience from last week.

cjt110 · 24/12/2019 08:04

@Wildboar because they gave it to us incase of any issues over the next 24 hours.

Have managed to get him to have calpol. Temp down to 36.6

Phew
