Butter on croissants? Yes or No?

My friend and I are going out with the kids tomorrow morning and she suggested bringing a packed breakfast (croissants) along. I said I’d take care of bringing the food, my turn as she previously paid for lunch. It’s an outdoor event we are going to. I’ve packed some raisins, tangerines, fruit juice, chocolate chip brioche buns and some croissants. Should I butter the croissants or just take them as they are?

Thanks ☺️

I wouldn't butter them but maybe bring along some jam if you have some?

bumpysleighridejack · 22/12/2019 04:52

Can't eat croissants without butter and jam personally. Cut them open and butter them like sandwich's then wrap!

Apolloanddaphne · 22/12/2019 04:59

Surely croissants have to be hot fresh from the oven then slathered in melty butter? I can't really imagine eating a cold croissant. I would think they would be nicer buttered though. Can you take butter and jam with you so people can choose?

funmummy48 · 22/12/2019 05:20

You need jam or chocolate spread and ideally, I'd want them warm. Personally, I can't stand butter on my croissants but my SIL would disagree.

Croissant with a slice of cheese and some butter is nice

golddustwomen · 22/12/2019 05:52

I don't. Warm with jam!

Dozer · 22/12/2019 05:54

Yuck to cold croissants

Southmouth · 22/12/2019 05:58

I butter them to have warm but I’ve never had them cold so not sure. Couldn’t you take a small pot with butter and jam or chocolate spread in so people could make a choice?

HalfManHalfLabrador · 22/12/2019 05:59

No

Oliversmumsarmy · 22/12/2019 06:02

No they already have loads of butter in them

StrawberryPi · 22/12/2019 06:04

Sat at a table I would do warm with butter and jam, but for a picnic breakfast with fruit etc I reckon they're fine as is! PPs, have you literally never tasted a cold croissant!?

summeriscoming20 · 22/12/2019 06:12

Toasted with butter is the best way

Santasleftboot · 22/12/2019 06:17

No butter

Inittowinit2020 · 22/12/2019 06:18

They are made from masses of butter??

MerryDeath · 22/12/2019 06:20

yes but it should be an option tbd by the eater

Her0utdoors · 22/12/2019 06:22

I've suprised myself here, but on the go/as a picnic no butter would be absolutely fine for me.
Obviously if I'm sat at the table, then warm and matched by volume with butter and jam is the only way. Although I'd probably be thinner if I dide.

I saw a programme of croissants being made. There is a lot of butter that goes into making a croissant

selavy · 22/12/2019 06:35

Butter on a croissant?
Skip the butter and at most take some jam, although I think they should be eaten plain myself.

Ludways · 22/12/2019 06:41

Yuck to jam. Savoury all the way.

Downunderduchess · 22/12/2019 07:02

No butter needed, a good quality croissant should be flaky & buttery enough.

Foghead · 22/12/2019 07:04

No butter. Just take them as they are.

TheLittleBrownFox · 22/12/2019 07:04

Take a small tuperwarewith butter as an option. Id want it - in for a penny in for a pound!

Bluerussian · 22/12/2019 07:06

I butter croissants and put apricot jam on them but that's at home so doesn't matter if it's a bit messy. I also like them warmed up.

DownWhichOfLate · 22/12/2019 07:08

Butter on a croissant is a bit like milk in a cup of earl grey Xmas Shock

cheeseandcrackers · 22/12/2019 07:13

Croissants are mostly butter already- I can't imagine putting anything at all on them. Eat them straight from the oven or cold but nothing on them.
