If you were giving £25 to charity this Christmas, who would you give it to?

WAY widowed and young

sunshineandshowers21 · 21/12/2019 19:55

age uk. i cry every time the adverts come on the tv. i’ve set up a direct debit to donate each month, the first time i’ve ever done this.

Bluerussian · 21/12/2019 19:57

Difficult one. There are charities I support monthly, eg the Red Cross, Smile Train and Trussell Trust (I don't talk about it generally but on here I'm anonymous).

A biggish donation such as you suggest for this time of year I'd probably give to a children's hospice or the Salvation Army.

It's up to you really, just pick one and do it, then forget about it.

Life for African Mothers

Or The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust

Daisydaysgoneby · 21/12/2019 19:59

Random people in the street.

LouisaJenny · 21/12/2019 20:01

Whatever issues are close to you.

Personally I’d donate the money to a charity that help the homeless in my local area.

june2007 · 21/12/2019 20:05

A charity close to your heart. For me it is currently fndAction. Which supports people with functional neurological disorder or Birmingham hospital. I have personal reasons for both.

Imaturkey · 21/12/2019 20:06

Don’t give to random people on the street!

However, a homeless shelter would be really nice.

ragged · 21/12/2019 20:09

Local for sure. And an 'unsexy' charity.
There's a local charity that supports respite care. I imagine it would be them.

BackforGood · 21/12/2019 20:11

Crisis
Shelter
Samaritans
Mind
Salvation Army
Trussell Trust
Your local Hospice - or Children's Hospice

Better still, set up a standing order. Even if it is only for £2, £3, or £5 per month - it gives a stability to the charity's budgeting, and most of us wouldn't miss such small amounts.

DoIhavetobejolly · 21/12/2019 20:11

Small and local where it will probably do the most good, I would say.

girlofthenorth · 21/12/2019 20:12

definitely Shelter for me .

LER83 · 21/12/2019 20:20

Something local, any local families with poorly children, something like that. Although saying that I've done Parkinsons and WWF (not wrestling!). Will also make a donation to Scope on pay day.

teentree · 21/12/2019 20:35

Thanks, some good ideas.

I donate throughout the year to various charities, definitely don't give to anyone on the street - odd suggestion. I have a standing order for a few pounds a month to the food bank and the Salvation Army. Both are due to end this month so I will be setting up 2 different charities very soon. The £25 is just a once off Christmas donation.

Some great ideas up there, thanks again.

As a one off Xmas donation, I’d do cash for kids

FrenchFancie · 22/12/2019 05:54

I have donated to Asthma uk
Dd has asthma and had a hospital admission this year. The charity was amazing when I rang their helpline as I was a bit confused and overwhelmed with what was happening. They didn’t ask for money at the time and haven’t used my details to ask for money so that makes me more inclined to support them now

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 22/12/2019 08:11

Local animal sanctuary would be my choice.

Peskyelephant · 22/12/2019 08:13

I've given to Medicins sans frontiers again this year. I like the idea that they will try and look after people I'm the most desperate situations.

Charley50 · 22/12/2019 10:20

I'm just researching this myself as I want to give regularly to other charities- I give to WaterAid currently.
I've decided on Shelter and Women's Aid. On the trains in London they recommend Whitechapel Mission, a local homeless charity.
