Help with New Year resolution.

I’m not usually one for a resolution but I’ve decided to for 2020.

I’ve decided to read a book a week as I don’t think I’m reading enough. I love the classics and have read many of them, I’m not really into chick lit though, but not adverse to them if they are well written.

Can you give me some suggestions for books to enjoy?

TIA

Ooh great resolution! Are you on Goodreads? That's brilliant for tracking your progress and keeping a record of your library (and getting ideas for your next read).

Here are a few ideas:
William Boyd - I love a lot of his books, but the stand out for me is Any Human Heart. I've actually bought it for my mum for Xmas.

Kate Atkinson - Life After Life. There are others with the same family too, but this was my favourite.

Barbara Kingsolver - The Poisonwood Bible. I read this YEARS ago, and can't remember too many details, other than I really enjoyed it.

Donna Tartt - The Secret History and The Goldfinch. Excellent books.

Non-Fiction - Invisible Women. Will fascinate you and make you cross in equal measure.

Freakonomics - a really interesting book about the dangers of causality of statistics. Fun read.

Classics - you say you've read a lot, so probably going over ground, but just in case, here's a few favourites:
Jude The Obscure (Hardy)
The Way We Live Now (surprisingly relevant)
1984

How lovely, enjoy your task!

Theres normally a "50 books" thread in "what we are reading" topic that starts first few days of January. I did the book a week thing a few years ago, joined the thread and got some fabulous suggestions. (Everyone lists their books and gives quick reviews).

I lost my reading bug this year so thinking of rejoining for 2020, think I'll manage around 30, but the ideas and books discussions are great.

Penny Parkes and Rosanna Ley are my favourite authors. They may be too much like chicklit for your liking (I find they have more sense and less fluff than more traditional chicklit authors like Milly Johnson or Jenny Colgan). Rosanna Ley usually has a travel aspect and a touch of the historical. Iona Grey is great for historical fiction.

I’m currently rereading Dorothy L Sayers Lord Peter Wimsey mysteries and loving them.

Also Three Things About Elsie by Joanna Cannon has a cover that’s easily mistaken for chicklit but it’s anything but, I loved it.
