Back to work and 16mo constantly ill

Three weeks ago I went back to work after more than 3 years as a SAHM. Am loving my job, but my 16mo daughter has had illness after illness. This has badly affected her sleep, so we are having broken nights again (which we alternate covering, but it's still ruddy hard).

Some of her illnesses have been picked up from other mindees and if she has the runs or is throwing up, our CM understandably won't take her.

Work have been supportive and have let me work at home as needed and keep an eye on her. Other days my husband has had to come home from work early and catch up on work later in the evening.

We are both stressed and tired... Is this normal for kids starting childcare? Just wanted an assurance that things will get better. Thanks for reading x

I had to put both my sons into nursery from 9 months old and returned to work.
It was horrendous for the first 2 years I’m afraid Confused illness after illness. From scarlet fever, impetigo, hand foot and mouth, colds.
By about 2 years it evened out and by the time they hit school age they were never Ill as they had had it all.Their quite immune now it seems , don’t wanna jinx myself for Xmas though

Completely normal sadly - in same position. By time they’re 3 their immune system will be awesome.

Totally normal. Completely awful when you're going through it obviously!

I put my little boy in nursery when he was 9 months and for the first 3 months he got everything. This also winter so there was obviously a lot of seasonal viruses going about too. After then he hasn't really been sick much but it was a tricky transition period while I was trying to make a good impression at work.

Yep very normal; first few weeks either DD was ill or I was ill from her, it was tough but it doesn’t last forever and I do believe their immune system develops from it

God I remember this so well OP. I remember thinking no way, I know everyone says it’s bad but they didn’t mean this bad! Turns out they did and it’s pretty normal if stressy. I was in a new job too and felt awful at needing time off so often but thankfully they were very supportive and understanding.

Brew or Wine to get you through! As PPs said, for us it had resulted in a pretty robust immune system.

Yes, it happened to us too, it was a nightmare. However, he's nearly 16 now and has virtually never had a day off school.
