What have you done for others this Christmas?

Obviously you don't do kind things for publicity so you don't usually say these things. unless you're one of THOSE fb people ;)

But I thought it would be nice to have a thread about acts of kindness this Christmas, maybe to inspire others to do the same. However small.

This year I have bought 3 different children Christmas presents from a giving tree in the local shopping centre.

I also donated soft drinks and mince pies to a local charities Christmas party for homeless families.

I wish I could do more but I'm on long term illness benefits myself,

Has anyone else done anything nice this season?

Helped to raise £££££ for charity.

RonSwansonsMustacheComb · 21/12/2019 13:26

I made two Christmas hampers for two elderly men with no families.

And yesterday I paid someone's bus fare.

Both things made me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

Aww they are lovely things.

I always want to offer to pay for little bits at tills etc... But worry people will get offended.

Nothing Blush

I did think about volunteering locally but had missed the application deadline (think it was 1 November) and am restricted due to own v elderly parents.

Thanks for the reminder though. Smile

I've put toys into a local charity that gives toys to children in poverty at Christmas. I've also given a couple of selection boxes into the food bank along with my regular donation.

To be honest, my charitable giving has to be limited, as my own family need as much help as I have to give. I run my own household, pay a lot for dd1 to be at uni, and also give regular "loans" to my sister (she can't afford to repay them, it's a polite fiction that it's a loan, we both know I'll never see the money again). I wish I could do more for other people, but both my time and my money are all accounted for :(

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 21/12/2019 13:44

Gave a pizza to a homeless person.

wowfudge · 21/12/2019 13:44

I collected donations for the local food bank and have raised money for another local charity.

namechangenumber2 · 21/12/2019 13:47

I volunteer for a charity and I've helped to run parties for the children, wrapped presents for mums who wouldn't otherwise get anything and eaten an awful lot of mince pies in the mean time.

I love what I do, would recommend it to anyone!

Fishcakey · 21/12/2019 13:47

I wore a Christmas jumper and paid £2 to charity for the pleasure....

beepbeeprichie · 21/12/2019 13:50

Volunteered at a foodbank
Bought 3 trolleys of food for said foodbank
Volunteered at a hospice
Bought 6 presents for underprivileged children in my area.
I am fortunate, so I want to do what my time allows.

Ohffs66 · 21/12/2019 13:53

I gave my hairdresser an extra tenner yesterday after she gave a mentally ill chap a haircut for free when he came in asked for a haircut and said he had no money (he said out loud himself he was mentally ill so I'm not making assumptions!). She was so kind to him and so gracious about it she made him feel like he was doing the junior a favour by letting her practice on his hair, it was really lovely to see. So I sort of paid for his haircut.

Pieceofpurplesky · 21/12/2019 13:54

I donate to the local homeless shelter. Donate to foodbank. Feed some of the kids at school who don't have enough to eat (but that's all year round)

Pancakeflipper · 21/12/2019 13:55

Helped at a charity Christmas Disco for children.
Raising money for 2 local charities delivery Christmas trees (charging a small fee).

At the shop, I was stood in front of the girl who sells the Big Issue. I paid for her shopping. Her gratitude was embarrassingly lovely. I didn't stop smiling all day.

My eldest child is just going out with a large collection of Christmas cards wrote by some elderly folk on our street who cannot get out much. He's the delivery boy.

Donated to the food bank
Donated to the local animal rescue centre
Gave toys and books to the toy bank

QuestionableMushroom · 21/12/2019 13:56

Gave a woman two chests of drawers after our counsellor put up an appeal on Facebook on behalf of single mum to four who’s just been rehoused after finding herself homeless, apparently she’s been inundated with furniture and stuff for her kids by our local community.

daffyducked · 21/12/2019 13:57

I went out and bought £150 worth of children's toys for local toy appeal.

I put together and donated 2 Christmas feasts in a box for the food banks.

mummagirl · 21/12/2019 13:58

Organized a Christmas tree festival in our church which raised over £4000 for local charities

anxioussue · 21/12/2019 13:59

Contributed to collection to buy mince pies for the hospital staff on Xmas eve and the next few days

ShristmasChopper · 21/12/2019 14:00

Bought a few christmas goidies and dropped them at the food bank.
Donated lots of hotel toiletries I've collected all year to a friend making goody bags for the homeless.
Started volunteer work at a local animal rescue centre. I've just completed my induction and can now go in whenever I'm free, so looking forward to getting stuck into that.

Likethebattle · 21/12/2019 14:03

Bought a present for a child in poverty. Paid for a meal for a homeless person on Christmas Day and for a small gift. Will donate food to the dogs trust to keep four legged pals from being hungry.

Nononononono33 · 21/12/2019 14:06

Donated items to the local food bank and contributed to Centre Point to buy a Christmas dinner for someone who needs it. Closer to home, am taking my widowed aunt to buy her Christmas food shopping on Monday and have some vouchers to give to her to contribute to the cost (she may or may not want to accept them). It doesn’t feel very much really, when I have no money worries and can spend Christmas with my nice family.

LazyArsehole · 21/12/2019 14:11

These are all so lovely.

This is what Christmas is really about :)
