Anyone else not like gravy/custard on things?

I don't dislike gravy but don't like it on food. And I always have custard separately from the pudding. My family think I'm weird!

I love custard on cake/crumble etc but gravy is evil.

Redcrayons · 20/12/2019 19:02

Custard yes hold the pudding
Gravy no, not ever.

Everyone looks aghast when I tell them I don't like gravy, so I'm glad to have found like minded gravynhaters.

Toddlerteaplease · 20/12/2019 19:02

Why would you want to make Yorkshire puddings or chips soggy. ConfusedEnvy

DS1, never has gravy, custard, cream etc.

mynameiscalypso · 20/12/2019 19:04

I don't really like sauces of any description. Dry food all the way!

michealsmum1998 · 20/12/2019 19:07

I am like you, I don't mind gravy and custard but would much rather have it on the side

StainlessSteelCat · 20/12/2019 19:10

Gravy - depends, but I'm am fussy and would rather have none than dinner drowned in salty brown gloop.
Custard - never. Just no.

Even worse - last Xmas dinner I ate at PILs was played up in kitchen, covered in gravy and microwaves to warm it up. Pud had same treatment with the custard. No choice.... I always serve gravy, cream, custard whatever separately so you can add the amount you want!

JigsawsAreInPieces · 20/12/2019 19:13

I would happily eat gravy and custard with a spoon straight out of the jug (not together!) as I love them both. Nothing like roast beef and thick gravy made with meat juices or apple crumble and thick custard, yum 😋

Kaykay066 · 20/12/2019 19:14

2 of my sons don’t like Gravy or one doesn’t have it at all and the other occasionally If he fancies it and it has to be runny. He does like custard though.
I’d find dinner quite dry but each to their own I guess

Sharpkat · 20/12/2019 19:17

Another gravy hater here!

TheBitchOfTheVicar · 20/12/2019 19:20

This is me! I like both, but don't like soggy food. The rest of my family think I'm weird. On mash gravy is fine, as it is already soggy. On anything else... Shock

Nomorewineever · 20/12/2019 19:20

Yak to sloppy food.

Custard is nice if it’s quality and cold.

Anything in gravy reminds me of bad school dinner. And ruins all the nice subtle flavours and glazing you’ve done on your veg (honey and sesame parsnips absolutely marmalade carrots, roasts with rosemary and garlic)

MrsPear · 20/12/2019 19:22

Ds2 burst into tears last Sunday as h put gravy on his dinner. I thankfully had t even sat down so I swapped plates. Me and ds1 love gravy esp when we have beef as I make my own peppery one. Ds2 loves custard mind you in fact we all do so much I open 2 tins.

Dontsayyouloveme · 20/12/2019 19:23

Custard (and jam/marmalade) is good if the devil 🤢🤢🤢🤢

KittenVsXmastree · 20/12/2019 19:28

No to custard, no to cream, no to custard, no to mayonnaise, no to salad dressing, no to salad cream.....

Toddlerteaplease · 20/12/2019 22:37

I'm so glad I've found my tribe! My sister is adamant that I have to have custard in my Christmas pudding this year. As soon car my weirdness has been kept in the family. This year it will be public! I don't like Christmas pudding much either!

I don't mind custard but I prefer it kind of to the side of a pudding rather than poured all over it.
Gravy, however, is the work of the devil and there is a special corner of hell reserved for anyone who seves a meal with gravy already on it.
The same applies to any kind of salad dressing or any other type of disgusting slimey stuff that people pour over food. The only exception is cauliflower cheese. In all other circumstances sauces or dressings of any kind, if they must be used at all, should be served separately leaving those of us who prefer to taste the actual flavours of our food to do so in peace. Vinegar has no place in civilised society and nor does does mayonnaise.

LittleReindeer · 20/12/2019 23:33

No I cannot eat food if it has nothing moist on it!

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 20/12/2019 23:35

This is complicated. I like custard but not on things.

Gravy, yes. On things because how do you eat gravy without?

fedup21 · 20/12/2019 23:39

I used to really hate gravy, but I think that’s because my mum’s gravy was rather watery!!
