Sweaty sleep wear

I was going to post in menopause. Or sleep. Or style and beauty. And ended up here.

I’m so sweaty at night. But not hot. If anything I’m cold because the sweat cools off. It’s hormonal, worse in the run up to and first part of my period. Been going on ages. All my night wear is 100% cotton. As is my bedding. And my mattress protector. Pillows are natural fibres. I need to feel warm to sleep. So I do have an electric blanket, but I turn it off before I sleep, and I have the cotton mattress protector over it.

Some people suggest that night wear made of bamboo or something else might wick the sweat away better. What works for you? It’s really affecting my sleep and I’m having to change in the night as I’m so cold from the sweat. At no point do I even feel hot.

i haven't tried it but this nightgown says it Cools skin, wicks moisture, controls odor and releases heat during the post-flush chill which sounds like what you need?

I have no answers for you OP, but im bumping as I have exactly the same issue

Skap · 20/12/2019 17:35

I had hot flushes and night sweats throughout the menopause and in fact for many years later. My tips would be;

  1. Two single duvets so DH can have a warmer one than me,
  2. A single cotton sheet under my duvet. This helps when you wake up, throw off the duvet and fall asleep, only to wake up after a few minutes freezing . Repeat, repeat, repeat.
  3. Thin cotton nightie with spaghetti straps. Soaks up the sweat but doesn't overheat you.

Ah! I get this too! So... does this mean I’m menopausal? I’m 42 but wasn’t expecting it yet (in my head I’m 29...)

bonzo77 · 20/12/2019 18:59

@Howmanysleepsnow I’m only 42 too. slightly panicking that this is perimenopause. DM only had it in her 50’s. But my periods are a bit irregular and getting closer together. Really don’t want to deal with doctors to sort this out.

@sleepismysuperpower1 that’s out of my budget really, unless I’m certain it’s going to work.

@Skap funnily enough, I still feel cold far more than DH. I’m always cold, I’m
Just sweaty rather than hot. I’ll freeze in spaghetti straps. Ditto on throwing off the duvet, I’m constantly pulling it over me, sometimes I need an extra blanket on my side. But everything is soaking wet!

Watching as I'm having the same problem and have been for a while (I'm 46). Fingers crossed someone has a solution 🤞

Clarinet53 · 20/12/2019 19:33

This is likely to be hormonal. I had a hysterectomy at 35. I was on a HRT patch and had this problem until I changed to a HRT tablet and it was more regulated.

There are other things which can cause night sweats. I'd pop to the GP to make sure there's nothing up x

LittleLongDog · 20/12/2019 19:36

Same. For me it’s from medication. I go to bed in pjs and strip off in the night.

Oldraver · 20/12/2019 19:56

Try getting rid of the electric blanket if you feel cold.

I found that getting into a warm bed while it initially felt nice, I think the body cools down to compensate, then you wale up later cold.

Well that's my theory anyway

@Clarinet53. This has been going on for years. Since my last pregnancy. I had a PID for months which developed into sepsis nearly 3 years ago , and I blamed the sweats on the chronic low grade infection. But they continued after that was sorted. Then earlier this year I had quite a lot of blood tests as they were looking for diabetes (negative) rheumatoid factor (negative) and all the usual MOT stuff for tiredness (full blood counts, haemotinics, thyroid, vitD, all negative). I was secretly worried about about something sinister but I think that would have showed up. Sweats continued regardless. I get a bit of a reprieve from days 3-10 of my menstrual cycle.
