Should you be allowed to enter a draw, when you are an organiser

Bought tickets for a draw, its to do with my sons sport.

The leader and owner won the main prize.
I dont think thats right.
Most competitions wont allow staff/family members to enter the draw.

Do you think its fair?or should he have offered to pull another ticket and let them have the big prize.

I think it is fine!

notsodimwit · 20/12/2019 02:42

I don't think it's fine! I enter competitions all the time and would be very suspicious if say Andy Peters won on good mornings competition Xmas Grin

LadyChatterleysHoover · 20/12/2019 02:51

Definitely unfair!

MadisonAvenue · 20/12/2019 02:51

It’s not fine at all!

I’ve seen this happen when I’ve entered a draw and it feels completely unfair. A lot of big contests state that people connected to the company or whatever can’t enter don’t they?!

safariboot · 20/12/2019 02:56

No way. Because the organisers are perfectly placed to rig it. There's so much potential for suspicion there.

Years ago I was involved in a craft group who had a sponsor donated sewing machine being raffled.
I had my name as organizer on the raffle tickets, & when it was drawn under police supervision I won it. Other committee people were there at the time, & police person assured me it was all legit & ok. Yay for me!!
So I think it's ok, lol.

But obviously a small raffle drawn by yourselves with no independent authenticator might seem a bit dodgy to others.

KatherineJaneway · 20/12/2019 03:46

I'd say it was rigged if they won.

Dustarr73 · 20/12/2019 06:45

It feels a bit Fr Ted,when they rigged the raffle to win the carGrin.

Yes i think he shouldd have pulled another ticket,i dont think its right he won.

Assuming it was drawn in front of everyone, then perfectly fair.

Why should the organiser not be able to win if it is fair and square?
If you were saying he wins every time then you'd have a point.

I'm assuming next year you'll volunteer to organise it, and bow out of not winning even if your ticket is pulled out?

RhymingRabbit3 · 20/12/2019 08:37

Assuming he paid for his ticket like everyone else, and the draw was done in front of people then I wouldnt have an issue. Do you really think he would rig a draw in order to win a prize - think about what you're accusing him of.

At the DC's school one Christmas, the Chair of the PTA won the top raffle prize that she had organised. She got booed as she went up to collect it, with mutterings of "fix" and "cheat" within my hearing. Tbf she did look very awkward and embarrassed.

And no I don't think she "cheated" but also I think she probably shouldn't have bought a ticket in this instance.

No because you have to be checked to be a volunteer for kids sports.

He wont the big prize 500 euro,so not like he won a tenner.
