Midwife Advice

I’m hoping someone can help me with some advice! I’m due in two days time, I’m a first time mum and I want to say my midwife experience hasn’t been the best ..

I originally had a midwife but something happened, we wasn’t told why or what happened but I’ve had two other midwives since then. We now have a lady called Clare who generally has our midwives appointment over within two minutes. I’ve had no signs of labour but I have two friends who are due the week after me, both have no complications but they’ve been booked in for sweeps and inductions in case they’re over due. My midwife hasn’t given us anything, she managed to only just booked us on Christmas Eve and another appointment on the 28th.

I just feel like we’ve not had the best advice given too us, my last previous appointment with her my partner mentioned I was getting really dizzy and suffering a few nose bleeds with some insomnia, her best advice was “drink some warm milk”

You don't normally discuss induction until your 40 weeks appointment, at my hospital inductions are only booked a week in advance, so your induction is booked at 41 weeks for week 42 if baby hasn't come by then.

There may be a reason why your friends inductions are being booked now? My induction was booked at 39w for week 40 because my consultant didn't want me going over 40w (standard practice at my hospital for all women over 40 which I was).

Why don't you ask your midwife at your next appointment what the procedure is for a sweep and induction. You are allowed to ask any questions you like.

Feeling dizzy, nose bleeds and insomnia are all normal pregnancy symptoms. If your blood pressure is okay there isn't anything the midwife can do except tell you to rest and take it easy.

@Pilot12 the midwife told us she’d have to wait until we were 42 weeks which is the 4th January and are likely to have an induction the week after.

We did talk about possibilities of a sweep but she shrugged us off. I’m not worried about going over due but she hasn’t given us much information on what our next steps are until go overdue and she just said the next two appointments will be standard appointments such a blood pressure check etc.

I think I may just have to push in a little more with questions and hope to get better answers! 😅

You must have misunderstood her, no trust allows women to go over 42 weeks in the uk as it raises the risk of still birth.

Where I work it'd be offering sweeps from your due date onwards (41+ weeks with subsequent babies) then the IOL gets booked at 41 weeks, ready for 41+5.
