Shark or Dyson?

GreyBird84 · 19/12/2019 08:50

2 adults 2 kids 1dog.
We seem to have to buy a new dyson cordless every couple of years!

I would prefer cordless because I find them so handy but I don’t want to shell out £200/£300 every couple of years. I use the hoover 4/5 times a day (not the whole house just wherever a mess has been made!).

We’ve got a shark and we love it.
We bought it to replace a dyson.

For us not supporting dyson as a company was a primary factor in our choice not to replace our old dyson with a new one (after the ceo fucked us over with brexit)

I do have to say that the shark is much better with dog hair than the dyson.

Am in exactly same position - my Dyson I’ve only had 3 years but it’s getting rubbish now.
I don’t really want to pay out so much but it seems they re all about same price.Im going to wait for the January sales .
The only thing is the sharks seem to very bulky on the suction end, quite big heads ?
The only thought I had was that it originally cost £300 but I Hoover 1-2 times a day so average that cost per day is not so awful if I get another 3-4 years

I hate the thought of a corded hoover after 6 yrs wield hand free.....

Shark! Anti hair wrap model. Bought it on black friday and I love it.

BrightonBB · 19/12/2019 19:21

Love my Shark - amazed at how much more it picks up.

Sweetooth92 · 19/12/2019 19:22

We have a shark and two huge shedding dogs. I love that vacuum more than anything. We had the duoclean pet version. I’ll never go back to dyson. The only issue we have is it’s so strong suction it fills fast with the dog hair so if I’m not quick enough emptying the rubbish container then it can back up in the pipe. But that just shows how efficient it is and how crap I am at remembering to empty it

blardyfeck · 19/12/2019 19:25

I bought a cordless Shark a couple of weeks ago and I'm really impressed with it.

minesapinkgin · 19/12/2019 19:33

Shark definitely. Our dyson was rubbish

goose1964 · 19/12/2019 19:35

My sister had a Dyson but raves about her Shark.

ironicname · 19/12/2019 19:40

@Puta

It's so hard to tell these days!

ironicname · 19/12/2019 19:41

On a more helpful note...

I sent my shark back as it was total rubbish. I'd have had better results with a carpet sweeper.

ironicname · 19/12/2019 19:42

I have a Miele cat and dog now and it's excellent.

Serenschintte · 19/12/2019 19:47

Are you cleaning the filters and changing them when needed? I didn’t realized Until my Dyson handheld stopped working.
Both filters need cleaning once a month - the hepa at the back and the tube like one that pulls out.
It’s also possible to clean the large cleaning tool that rotates. Hair etc can get caught in it and stop it rotating.
I bought replacement filters and then I just switch them and can still use Dyson whole waiting for filters to dry.

I had a similar thread two/three months ago. Everybody said yes to Shark, Dyson no,no Smile.

Bought a Shark cordless, it's a lovely thing Grin.

NeutralJanet · 19/12/2019 19:58

I'm getting a Shark when my current crappy Vax bites the dust. The Hinch cleaning tips Facebook group rates it as the best.

marvelousways · 19/12/2019 19:58

LOVE my sharks! Have both corded and cordless. The cordless is fab. It is the ONLY vacuum I have ever had that has lasted more than 2 years! We have 6 kids, 3 dogs and a cat!! Have had all sorts in the past :hoover, dyson, vax etc... will always go for Sharks now!

TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 19/12/2019 20:00

Not tried a shark.

Was very impressed with my battery Bissell. (and previously a corded carpet cleaner)

MIL always had a dyson, which made the house absolutely reek of dog whenever she hoovered.

We just got a corded miele cat and dog, and it's bloody brilliant, and I absolutely love just changing a bag rather than having a scuzzy plastic container to empty/wash. I thought I'd hate the cord, but it's super long and the retractor actually works, so I don't.

roses2 · 19/12/2019 20:49

I've got three vacuum cleaners all of which are good at different things. One for hard floors. One for carpets. And one for corners / stairs.

FatBlobbyBob · 19/12/2019 20:52

Shark liftaway, still picking up loads of crap, day in day out and is as good as it was 2 years ago.

BingoLittlesUncle · 19/12/2019 21:14

Shark. We had a Dyson, the Shark is far better.

MrsCasares · 20/12/2019 13:31

Shark all the way.

ODFOx · 20/12/2019 14:20

How relieved am I? I thought this was a baby names thread !

theoriginalmadambee · 20/12/2019 14:50

🤣
@ODFOx, could easily have been, says more about the naming trends imo 🤣.

1happyhippie · 20/12/2019 14:57

Shark for me. The amount of hair it pick up is shocking!
We have a long haired dog that appears to shed hair for fun 🙈 very easily picked up with the shark.
Had it about 18month now and its still as powerful as it was on day one.
Had various dysons before this but shark wins hands down for me.
I got mine from the shark website where you can pay in instalments

Thecrown3 · 20/12/2019 21:20

Have all the shark models got big brush heads though? I like Dyson size brush heads and shark seem huge/bulky
