This should make for an interesting new year in the news cycle.

I don’t know why it’s not clicky:

Clinton was also impeached on December 19th (but I think it’s still 18th in the US).

Merry Christmas Donald.

ShippingNews · 19/12/2019 04:00

It will be defeated in the Senate, and his supporters will be even more enamoured of him.

His response on Twitter.

Trump impeached
OP posts:

It's inconsequential.

KarenDABest · 19/12/2019 04:27

just leave him alone lol

SnorkMaiden81 · 19/12/2019 04:32

The consensus on Twitter seems to be that seeing as this will go to trial in Senate, and Senate is largely controlled by his party, that it will be quashed.

Skidzer · 19/12/2019 05:15

We know Snork.

Shortbreadbaby · 19/12/2019 07:07

What does impeached mean?

Squigean · 19/12/2019 07:46

It means formally charged @Shortbreadbaby, effectively the first stage of his removal.

Well as far as I can figure out, any news article with the heading "what is impeachment?" is a bit nebulous! There's no "impeachment is " anyway!!

No impeached president has ever been removed. Which, to me, means it more like an official black mark. Doubt it'll even both Trump. Being Trump he will probably just claim it stupid nonsense (real stupid, stupid, nonsense that is stupid etc).

GoToSleepYouSod · 19/12/2019 08:17

Whilst I don’t imagine he will be removed from office, I disagree that it’s inconsequential. I think it will do the American people a world of good to see that even POTUS can be held accountable for his actions.

Yes I imagine Trump will just disregard it and continue being a small handed bumbling fool, but at least it’s something.

longwayoff · 19/12/2019 09:46

So much for the well trumpeted 'Checks and Balances' that are supposed to protect the American people from chancers like Trump becoming president and being held accountable for his actions if he does. "Smoke and Mirrors" would be a better description .

ShippingNews · 19/12/2019 10:32

Bill Clinton was also impeached, and Nixon , and Adams. I'm sure that the Americans know that this is possible. Don't assume that they are ignorant of their own history. And despite what you may think, many of them like him and what he has done as President. It is highly likely that he will be returned for a second term.

Squigean · 19/12/2019 10:36

If you look at twitter you can see that supporters of Trump see it as a false impeachment. A vengeful act. It will make no difference: he'll get back in.

HulksPurplePanties · 19/12/2019 10:37

I think it will do the American people a world of good to see that even POTUS can be held accountable for his actions.

But he won't be. The cuckholds in the Senate will bow down and kiss his orange ass and burn the Constitution while they do it and King Donny will keep sitting pretty. Right now I wouldn't be surprised if the mindless sychophants who support him don't vote him in for a 3rd term, much less a 2nd.

GoToSleepYouSod · 19/12/2019 10:40

Mmm where did I say they were ignorant shipping? And obviously many of them like him, he’s their president and was voted in, when I have been over to the US, I have seen for myself how much people like him. However, many of them cannot comprehend what is happening in their own country.

Just as many of our countrymen cannot understand how BJ was re-elected and would love to see him stand accountable for his lies.

I also never suggested he would lose his presidency or not be re-elected but being held accountable for his abuse of power is a great thing. Even if it will just pass.

Democracy is increasingly a fucking joke.

Patroclus · 19/12/2019 11:10

If they really wanted rid of him they could. Can even supporters of Trump try and say that adminstration wont be full to the brim of corruption? Id say hes gone beyond Nixon.

GlitchStitch · 19/12/2019 11:10

This will backfire spectacularly and he will be voted back in next year, maybe even with increased votes. The current crop of Democrats are as out of touch with the electorate as Corbynistas were over here.

Woollycardi · 19/12/2019 11:10

Was that actually his real twitter post? Wow. Paranoia and collusion are still turned up on full volume then.

Patroclus · 19/12/2019 11:13

You'e right Glitch. They (the old order) still dont get it.

DGRossetti · 19/12/2019 11:33

Nixon wasn't impeached. He resigned just before ( and Ford pardoned him).

AdobeWanKenobi · 19/12/2019 12:22

That was my first thought. No such thing as bad publicity and all that. This will properly rally his supporters.

WarmSausageTea · 19/12/2019 12:26

This will properly rally his supporters.

I agree. His supporters are nothing if not motivated; this will just get their heels dug further in, and may actually get him more support just in time for 2020.

HoldMyLobster · 19/12/2019 13:44

Trump supporters will vote for him whatever happens. Impeachment or lack of it won't affect their vote.

It's the people in the middle that you need to vote for you if you want to become president. Trump swung a lot of them his way in the last election. I'd be surprised if he swung them in the next election, and not just because of the impeachment.

I know a lot of people who voted for him last time who will not vote for him again, having seen him in action. They are seriously worried about things like trade tariffs, a potential recession, coverage of pre-existing conditions being repealed, and the general lack of accountability of the Trump administration.

If the Democrats field an electable candidate (without the complicated past that Hillary had) then I suspect Trump will lose heavily.

But who knows what will happen between now and next November?
