This is usually the time of year when I panic and buy presents I really don't *need* to buy

We do a Secret Santa at work, but then I inevitably feel guilty and end up buying my close colleagues something, then the neighbour who takes in my bin etc

and before I know it, it's nearly £200.

I am determined not to do it this year, but I'm feeling the pressure!

I do exactly the same, I've wrapped dd's presents up and they have plenty but I'm still worrying that the 6 year old will be disappointed, all she's asked for is slime so I've struggled to think what to buy her.

I used to shop last minute and definitely spent less.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 18/12/2019 23:06

I'm pleased to announce I've sorted my twitch- by splitting a present into smaller bits. Both now have same number of things to open, but I have bought nothing extra.

DramaAlpaca · 18/12/2019 23:08

For the first time ever I've managed to avoid the 'twitch'. So far Grin

I'm twitching with my dec 23rd online food order.Ive got a lot in already but keep adding

BrieAndChilli · 18/12/2019 23:11

God I hate the twitch. Luckily this year SIL and MIL both asked me a couple of days ago that if they gave me money would I buy the kids presents from them. So normally I would be twitching and spending my own money but this year I get to fulfill the twitch to buy more but it’s with someone else’s money Grin

bellsbuss · 18/12/2019 23:24

@BobTheBauble I also think how id it £300, I'm too scared to add up our total cost.

bellsbuss · 18/12/2019 23:24

Is

FrappeLatte · 19/12/2019 03:55

I wish I could be ‘twitching’... I’ve barely started Christmas shopping yet! Not feeling festive at all. Need to try and get my arse into gear Confused

Limpshade · 19/12/2019 04:19

I think this is easy to do if you start shopping early. I've been slowly accumulating stocking stuff since the beginning of November and have been throwing it into a box in a cupboard. Last week I got it all out to divide it up between my two girls, thinking I would need to add to it with another shop, and it actually seemed HEAPS.

Mine are still quite young so rather than add to a pile to even it out, I took things out. Although their main present from us is just one small toy each, they have very generous grandparents, aunts and uncles (all overseas from us) and together it's far too much for them to open without getting overwhelmed. Lesson learnt. Ignore the twitch!

itssquidstella · 19/12/2019 05:17

I'm currently on holiday in Canada and won't be back until the 22nd. I have a feeling the 23rd is going to be twitch central...

pinkyboots1 · 19/12/2019 06:00

I'm over the twitch now but I do know that when my DP who works away comes home he'll be twitching like a good un! It's his way of being involved so I make sure that he has certain stuff to do like buying the stuffings, checking all cards are delivered etc

JustaScratch · 19/12/2019 06:41

I'm trying really hard this year, partly because we are low on cash, and partly because everyone has said very clearly that they don't want lots of pointless tat. I'm sure I will 'twitch' at the weekend and buy assorted food/drink items to supplement the main presents.

Greyhound22 · 19/12/2019 07:15

I'm feeling it too.

I haven't done cards and now I'm feeling guilt.

I'm now twitching about teachers - I said I wasn't doing it - if it was just one and a TA then I would but there's four! I'm just running out of time and money. But I feel guilty. I think I'll just get a card.

cathyandclare · 19/12/2019 07:16

I have found my people. Twitching terribly. Couldn't sleep and ordered a couple of Amazon things and also stressing that the ( adult- early 20s) DDs don't have enough. Nightmare!

Weekday28 · 19/12/2019 07:29

Same here. I thought leaving all of the shopping until the start of December would mean I avoid it but I'm still sat here this morning scouring amazon! I need to stop arghh

sueelleker · 19/12/2019 15:54

I do lots of stocking fillers.(No kids) I find it easier to get lots of small things than big ones. And at our time of life we've probably got everything we need.

PutYourBackIntoit · 19/12/2019 19:48

Went to Aldi today to buy wine for gifts. Got the wine, got a couple of bits for friends kids, then had a huge twitch and bought a giant cuddly unicorn that had to be strapped onto the passenger seat to fit in the car.
FFS....now my perfectly proportioned stockings are hugely out if sync. I'm just hoping the older kids won't mind....Crown Shock

PutYourBackIntoit · 19/12/2019 19:50

Here she is...shall name her Twitchy!! 😁

This is usually the time of year when I panic and buy presents I really don't *need* to buy
ColleysMill · 19/12/2019 20:24

Ah yes the twitch! I get it frequently and have to sit on my hands to restrain myself

Rtmhwales · 19/12/2019 20:33

Surely the £300 is an average. So while some of you are spending £1000 I've spent .. £10 on a gift for my toddler DS. Adults in my family have all decided we will just give gifts to the kids to cut out on the waste and unnecessary expense.

ravensoaponarope · 19/12/2019 22:14

I am pleased with all the gifts I've bought this year and doing really well at not twitching, EXCEPT
I have now started buying gifts for myself!
