Sending liquids by courier

Apparently you can't send liquids with most couriers. I understand this. They could leak. But I've bought shower gels for someone and was planning to get them couriered in a box with some other gifts. Surely no one will ever know? I intend to make sure they are packaged very securely. I suppose if they find out my items will never be delivered. Has anyone else just sent liquids? I have a problem because I need to send the package today and can't get anything else.

My daughter sent me a bottle of gin for my birthday - and very lovely gin it was too. It was in a box with all sorts of other stuff.

Liquids not classified as dangerous goods can be sent by Royal Mail in the UK. They need leakproof packaging and there might be other restrictions.

I know I can send via ParcelForce but they are three times the price and I just can't afford that. I think I'm going to risk it. It will all be very carefully packaged. I'm just concerned because of the other items in there in case it all gets pulled.

I think you’ll be fine. I’ve previously delivered for Hermes and I’ve definitely delivered liquids and had a bottle of gin delivered this week via them even though it says on their website it prohibited. Can you package your items separately in boxes but then strap the boxes together so it’s one parcel? So if the liquids leak at least the other items will be safe.

If you go via Parcel Monkey, Parcelforce is a lot cheaper than going direct (used them this week for the same reason - half the cost of going through their website, even with the Quidco voucher)

I wasn't prepared to risk My Hermes - I did it last year, and had one small bottle of bubblebatg in a ten kilo box: they apparently saw it on an X Ray, and the whole box was disposed of as a result. Tried fighting over it for a couple of months, but got nowhere - as it is in their T and C- other than getting my banning from their services rescinded.

I had done it before and no bother - but losing £300 of presents last year means I wouldn't personally chance it again. With PM, parcelforce only cost me £3 more (and some of that was because I upped the insurance anyway) than MH, and was delivered the other end of the country 16 hours later to boot.
