Hi
Can anyone recommend a budget-mid range dash cam please?

I have a NextBASE Duo.

Whatever you get, I can't recommend getting one that covers the rear as well strongly enough.

I also have a nextbase, very good picture quality. It is mounted via a special suction cup thing. I leave that in situ and just remove the camera unit.

I also got it "plumbed in" to the fusebox (very easy as it just piggybacks onto an existing fuse with a special adapter provided) so I don't have wires trailing all over the place and I can still use the cigarette lighter to charge my phone.

I've got Nextbase too. One with a rear camera. I second wiring up to the fuse box. That way you can't forget to plug it in when you go and you can still charge your phone if need be.

I really can't stress enough how shit that is in my experience. ALL suction devices are. No matter how clean the glass (and I had mine cleaned professionally) the thing will fall off when (a) you least expect it and (b) when it's impossible to do anything about it.

Mine is secured with a mounting kit from Amazon I attached to the rear view mirror. And my phone (used as satnav) is secured to a bracket in the air vent.

It will be interesting to see if motor manufacturers pick up on this and provide appropriate solutions for in car gadgets, or if they continue to try and flog their own immensely inferior tat.

So far mine has only fallen off when the car has been parked in direct sunlight for ages and I get in the car to find it in the footwell. Since summer, its been there, rock solid (same for years). And my glass is filthy Grin maybe the grot has glued it on

Horses for courses though, whatever works best for you.

I had an attachment that held my phone to the side glass fall off directly into my "lap" which **ing took the wind out of my sails ShockEnvy I can tell you.

You wait until it happens on a motorway and you were relying on the sat nav.

My sat nav (phone) is attached to one of the air vents. It's just my dashcam on the sucker. I shan't tempt fate though!

Although I did have a different vent phone clip when on holiday recently, and my phone kept 'pinging' out of it. Slightly alarming with the windows all wide open and going round sharp bends Grin

(I fixed the two slippery surfaces by attaching some rubber bands for grip!)

My phone air vent thing falls off occasionally, I think my phone's a bit too heavy for it. My dashcam on it's suction thing has only fallen off once, when parked in direct sun in the height of summer.
