Does this need a Dr (picture of cut/graze)

I'm super clumsy and cut/grazed my hand on Saturday.

It bled a bit, I cleaned it up and stuck a plaster over it. Due to work I've been changing the plaster fairly regularly and letting air at it when I'm home but tonight it looks a bit angry and it's really throbbing.

It's dry, a tiny bit warmer than the rest of my hand but it looks really red around the cut which has
Spread a bit (line is where the plaster came to and where the redness was at lunchtime)

I think it's fine and just to keep it clean and keep an eye on it.

DH thinks I should be phoning the dr as soon as it opens or my thumb is going to fall off.

I still wouldn't cover it, it looked cross and angry last night, I'd let the air get to it to dry it out and it's easy enough to keep that clean and dry imo, but def keep a watch on the redness

but I am very low maintenance when it comes to first aid

The old advice used to be let it air, woundes actually heal better and with less scaring if covered. You should cover them of possible to aid faster healing.

Talking of rusty things why don't they do tetanus boosters any more ?

Did the doctor actually see your wound? What does it look like today?

It looks nothing like when my DH has had cellulitis (3 times now). Those have swelled very quickly, are very hot and extremely painful to touch. He has always been treated by GP or out of hours GP (weekend attack!).

It looks like a standard graze to me - they are always worse at healing than a straight cut IME. I agree with PP - leave grazes open to heal (unless doing something really dirty).

Dhs grandad was a dentist..they used hydrogen peroxide for everything
Dilute it and dab it on.

oooh Dowser, you'll be in the old lady corner with me, I'd forgotten about hydrogen peroxide

Moondancer73 · 19/12/2019 11:05

I'd say no. First call for me would be a pharmacist then if they say you need a dr ring the gp. I certainly wouldn't go to A and E

clumsyAF · 19/12/2019 19:04

@Purplewithred no, it's was a phone consultation.

It's looking much better, redness has gone down a lot. It's still very painful but that's probably because of where it is. Just keeping it clean and dry and uncovered when I can.
