Beds and bedrooms for twins

Right, apologies for the worlds most dull quandary...

We have 4 year old b/g twins who currently have toddler beds in a shared room. But they have mutually decided to sleep in the guest room in a double bed.

We've known for a while we need to trade in their toddler beds (if for no other reason they're shit sleepers so when we're playing musical beds in the middle of the night it would be nice to have their beds as a cramp-free option).

So do we -
A) buy bunk beds for their room (their preferred option but they both want to sleep on the top 🤦‍♀️ and currently have agreed between them they'll share - I'm having a cold sweat about the thought of them rowing in the middle of the night on the top bunk)
B) buy a second double for their room, they can then share that, or split into 2 separate rooms and it means we can sleep with one if needed.
C) buy 2 single beds so all equal but does give them the least usable floor space due to shape of the room. Also if they decide to split rooms a lot of the room will be taken up by a bed that isn't really needed.

Thank you!

D) two cabin beds! That way they can both have the top bunk, and if you get really sturdy ones with a good deep side above the mattress then if they really want to share they can. I don't know any brands, because my DF made them for my siblings and I when we were kids, but they lasted us to late teens.

D) get a bunk bed which is double at the bottom, single at top

E) get a single which pulls out as a double

Not sure if either of those options would be better?

2 Singles.
Single with single under or a sofa bed in the guest room and let them use it as a playroom.

What about a detachable bunk bed like this one

That way you can try them with it as a bunk bed but if they argue you can have the two singles side by side so they can sleep together like they would in a double and you can still use them separately when they're bigger and wouldn't want to share a double.

I'm sure that when I was looking at bunk beds for my DC they all came with a warning that kids under 6 shouldn't sleep in the top bunk?

SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing · 16/12/2019 21:01

Bunk bed that can be converted into either two singles or two cabin beds.

Steen bunks are excellent for this. V sturdy. If you buy the bunk you can split them easily, or buy kits to convert to mid sleepers

Get a bunk bed that splits into singles. They can either both sleep on the bottom for a bit (which should be fine as they’re little) or have them split into singles for the time being. Or, just have the top mattress under the bed under a trundle until you’re comfortable with one of them on the top bunk.

Mine eventually decided who gets the top bunk!

I likebathplugbonkers idea. Look at the ikea Kura. And ignore all the 'don't put under 6 in bunk beds'. As long as you teach then to be safe then it's fine. Sometimes needs must. And the Kura isn't even that high anyway. My son went in one at 3.

SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing · 16/12/2019 21:04

Or you could but two x Steen mid sleepers, and then if at some point you need to convert to bunks, you can just get the bunk conversion kit

Thanks all for the suggestions.

I think maybe the bunk that splits into 2 singles is the best way, I really can't imagine them sharing a top bunk will give them a good nights sleep (one is a kicker and we're currently operating a pillow wall between them in the double bed). But it does mean if they decide to have separate rooms we can stack the beds to give more floor space.

Anyone got any recommendations for reasonably priced bunk beds you can split?

Put the guest double into their room.

When they eventually want a room each buy the second room a double too.
