Help - Crest Mild Mint toothpaste

Have they discontinued it? Does anywhere still have stock?

Home Bargains have started stocking Freshmint instead. I got the last 5 tubes from Savers but when I returned a few weeks later there was just an empty shelf.

It is the ONLY toothpaste other than the children’s sensodyne Pronamel that Ds will tolerate and at almost 16 he needs an adult toothpaste.

I had to stock up in savers recently too as that's the one ds uses. He's not a fan of the fresh mint one

dementedpixie · 16/12/2019 19:35

If the children's pronamel has 1450ppm fluoride then it doesnt matter if it says kids on it

dementedpixie · 16/12/2019 19:36

Have you tried oranurse unflavoured toothpaste? I havent tried for ds as I havent needed to so far

Comefromaway · 16/12/2019 19:42

It looks like it does.

Ok it’s £2 for 50ml compared to Crests £.89 for £100ml but theconly alternative is to try a specialist one on an autism website.

Random but are fruit flavours acceptable? Mint burns my mouth! I use children's toothpaste with the recommended fluoride and I find Tesco strawberry ice cream and Sainsbury's berry both good

dementedpixie · 16/12/2019 19:44

I also found an oral b kids one that was mild mint but ds hasnt tried it yet

TooMinty · 16/12/2019 19:44

I agree with Pixie - as long as the kids' toothpaste has the same fluoride as adult then he can use it. I think Aquafresh does or Lidl own brand. The separate packaging is just a sales gimmick I think.

Comefromaway · 16/12/2019 19:44

No, not tried it as like you haven’t needed to resort to that yet.

They have some on Amazon

ExpletiveFairylighted · 16/12/2019 19:57

We had this when Boots discontinued the kids one my DS had used for years (also nearly 16 with ASD). After a lot of trial and error we have settled on Aquafresh Advance.

Comefromaway · 16/12/2019 19:58

Just been looking. Little worried at one review saying it’s fake.

If you have some left can you try weaning him off over a week or two by blending the mild mint with the fresh mint, changing the quantity bit by bit until it's more fresh than mild?

He probably needs a slower adjustment to the different flavour. Toothpaste is such a sensory thing isn't it! Had a similar problem when I bought the wrong mouthwash (a huge bottle too) - and that was my husband struggling to get over the change from mild to fresh.

I may be wrong but someone recently told me that although the flouride levels might be the same, the abrasiveness of the toothpaste is different for different ages (so less gritty for younger teeth). Hopefully a dentist will come along soon and tell us that's a manufacturer-created myth to trick us into having loads of different tubes of paste in every household! Rather like the 'targeted painkiller' shite which was debunked a while back.

I'm not a dentist but this is what my dentist told me.

Asda own toothpaste have some mild mint flavours which are cheap and cheerful and might fit the bill. But yes, children's toothpaste is fine if 1450.

Comefromaway · 16/12/2019 23:34

I think we must have tried every brand over the years!

Sainsburies do a mild mint one for children, don't know if you've tried it but it's 1450ppm fluoride.

As long as it's 1450ppm fluoride it really doesn't matter if it's adults or children's. So if he needs strawberry toothpaste or whatever so be it. You don't want toothpaste to be abrasive so if children's toothpastes are less abrasive that's not as problem (I haven't heard they are)

Allgirlskidsanddogs · 17/12/2019 18:02

Aqua fresh complete care toothpaste isn’t too strong. Ikm another that doesn’t like mint!
