Starsky and Hutch - any fans?

Ds has given me an early Christmas present of the first series of Starsky and Hutch. It’s fascinating watching it for the first time in a million years. Amazingly progressive about male friendships and race- breathtakingly unprogressive about women. Except for an episode about women refusing to testify against a rapist- the issue was addressed- but solved by shooting the rapist.

OMG! SIX marriages, and domestic violence? I feel embarrassed to admit I had a huge crush on him, around 1977.

@Butchyrestingface- there are loads of dull episodes on YouTube. Some are the ones that were intended to be funny. But there are some good ones too. And do check out the fanfic ones-as I said, lots of amateur homoeroric “cobble togethers”!

It's also available on one of the freeview channels, maybe Forces TV ?
But if you want to feel really old catch up with Callan.

I think it did me a lot of good to learn, as a young teen, that beautiful cool David Soul was a nasty wife beater. Don’t Give Up on us Baby is a string of appalling, whiny, non apologetic excuses. The lyrics are awful when you know it was written by someone who hit their wife.

Never judge a book by its cover.

I had a massive poster of S&H and kissed them both each night when I went to bed, admittedly I also kissed my posters of Leo Sayer, Bodie & Doyle, and David Essex! It was a nightly ritual.

What @TinklyLittleLaugh said.

But sadly nothing has really changed. People still think that beautiful ( and oh my word he was beautiful) and cool men can’t possibly be violent.

Bertrand I had a primary teacher in the seventies who was absolutely gorgeous; black beard, blue blue eyes. He looked like a child’s version of Jesus, played his guitar to us, sang folk songs.

And about once a fortnight went absolutely psycho and basically beat up any unfortunate kid who had rubbed him up the wrong way. Cane, plimsol, cricket bat, bare hands, choose your weapon. He had the whole class at a sort of heightened alertness level for the entire year. I’m not exaggerating to say we were all probably traumatised at some level.

I saw through the pretty ones at a very young age.
