Help need part fingerless gloves (with four fingers)

peoplepleaser1 · 16/12/2019 09:57

I have had and loved a pair of part fingerless gloves. They had three full fingers and then the thumb and fore finger was half length.

They have given up the ghost and I miss them so so much.

I just can't find a replacement. Even google and amazon haven't helped.

Can anyone point me towards a pair please?

You know, in the olden days a person would just buy a pair of gloves and cut off the two half fingers they don’t need. Now we need the power of the entire Internet.

I have seen some somewhere but can’t remember where ... Rick Owens, maybe.

FairfaxAikman · 16/12/2019 10:06

You can probably get a neoprene pair at a chandlery as they are used in sailing but not sure where you'd get woollen ones.

Alternatively I have a pair of sheep shin mitts from a company called SnowPaw. The four fingers flip back when needed and there's a slit in the thumb pad. Would that work?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 16/12/2019 10:08

A lot of working gloves are like that - Scruffs is one manufacturer DH buys from.

There are also versions called mechanics gloves and some skiing gloves too!

If you Google "part fingerless gloves" you'll get few hits

Do you know anyone who knits, and might be able to make you a pair?

Tombliwho · 16/12/2019 10:16

These are lovely and practical but don't have the fingerless element unfortunately.

@SurpriseSparDay.. I was about to suggest scissors and regular gloves...

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 16/12/2019 10:40

Is it because you need thumb and forefinger to use a phone screen? Because if so there are lots of full finger gloves with pads on the forefinger that you can use on screens. That might be a better bet for you.

Decathalon have fishing and sailing stuff and might have some .I think there may be limited mail order if you,re not near one .

hauntedvagina · 16/12/2019 10:47

If it's for using your phone, H&M do a twin pack of smartphone gloves for about a fiver.

Yes and if they're knitted gloves then they'll start unravelling. Really not great.

SurpriseSparDay · 16/12/2019 12:03

I’m sorry to see, tectonicplates, that you think the OP would be daft enough to cut up knitted gloves. Xmas Grin

Oh heavens - for once my memory hasn’t embarrassed me. These are the quite sickeningly lovely Rick Owens gloves I knew I’d seen.

peridito · 16/12/2019 12:13

some gloves for photography might fit the bill if you cut off the fold back tip

peoplepleaser1 · 17/12/2019 07:42

Thank you so much for the suggestions and links. I'm going to go trough them all today.

To the poster who seemed to think that the use of google had affected my ability to use logic and trim the fingers off some regular gloves: this won't work, they fray and this causes issues..... I guess I could attempt to hem them but they would still fray especially when washed.

@peoplepleaser1 good luck and do update .

Seems like there's a real gap in the market .

peoplepleaser1 · 17/12/2019 08:26

@peridito I think I there is! I work with animals and sometimes it's important to still have the precision offered by having my thumb and forefinger uncovered.

I prefer wool or thin fabric as I need to wash them regularly.

My dad got me the previous pair from a garage- they were with all those 'do you need' items which I usually ignore!

WeeDangerousSpike · 17/12/2019 08:28

I had some work gloves from the builders merchant like that, they were brilliant. Might have been scruffs.

SurpriseSparDay · 17/12/2019 08:29

I imagine you have sent your dad back to the garage to ask the name of their supplier? Would be worth buying in bulk if they’re going to get trashed.

PloddingPandaMum · 17/12/2019 08:31

Those Rick Owen gloves are the most confusing thing I've ever seen. Just... What? Why? WHEN? Grin they are a lovely colour though I'll grant you.

ItsGoingTibiaK · 17/12/2019 08:36

Here you go. I was served in TK Max by someone wearing them the other day and thought they were brill. I'm a photographer so I'll be buying some too.

Last year new look did full gloves with slits in the index fingers to pop your finger out.
It doesn't say in the description but from the photos I think these have slits for your index and thumb.

ItsGoingTibiaK wow ,well done !

TBH peoplepleaser if those found by ItsGoing aren't quite right I think you'll have most luck going for fingerless gloves .Some have quite long fingers .

Something like these ? Tho I think fleece would be better
