Docs or not?

Very luckily, and I am aware we are v lucky, the kids v rarely get ill.
I also don't like going to docs or a and e unless it's properly needed.
This does mean that I am now dithering and can't work out if I should try and get an appt or not.
10yr old, has had a temp of between 38.5 and 39.8 since yesterday 5am. Dosed up with paracetamol but that only drops the temp to the 38.5 mark. Has got a very sore throat ( no tonsils ) and a cough that hurts her chest and throat.
Half of me is thinking it's just a cold or viral thing, but then I don't know why the paracetomol isn't dropping the temp more, at least temporarily. She's fairly okay in herself, not altered in any way.
So, would you book an appt at docs or not?

I would try giving some ibuprofen which can be more effective at reducing temperatures. Based on what you've said I wouldn't go to the doctor and just let her rest.

This sounds like the virus my two DC(and everyone at DC1's school) had a couple of weeks ago. It was a really nasty one, but in DC1(5) it cleared up on its own in about 5 days. In DC2(2) though it turned into a chest infection and needed antibiotics - he got obviously worse after about 4 days and I took him to GP then. So I'd say try ibuprofen and give it a couple of days - but if it takes doesn't clear up or you're worried your child's getting worse then get it checked.

No I wouldn’t go to the doctor. I’d give paracetamol and ibruprofen alternately with lots of fluids and bad television.

cherry she groaned at the prospect of another day in front of the telly. She doesn't do 'nothing' very well Grin
But thanks. Just to have someone confirm what I thought helps!
Thanks kate I think if it were Friday I may have taken her but as it's not, we'll ride it out for a couple of days.

I wouldn’t go to the Dr either. I have been dealing with this since Thursday when DD cane hime from school with a 39.5 degree temp which rose to 40.3. I alternated calpol and Nurofen every three hours for two days - it’s below 38 now. I reckon she will be back at school tomorrow.

Thanks 'dook'. Hopefully it'll clear itself up and no doubt transfer to me in time for Christmas GrinGrin

Both mine had this - rest calpol
And ibuprofen and fluids and it will pass after about 4 - 7 days

bobkate · 16/12/2019 08:42

7 days...Shock 7 days of dolphin tale. Oh help! Grin
Thank you 'white'
