Ten year old ‘party clothes’ for the girl who doesn’t like parties

She wants to go to them, or at least chooses to go.
Lives in leggings and favourite sweatshirt.
Do your similar girls have a ‘party outfit’ that is acceptable to them and the occasion?
I would let her wear what she wants, but she wants ‘different’ to what she has.
I am clueless and unstylish.

What sort of party is it? How about a jumpsuit? My 10yo DD has a khaki one but there are probably more fancy ones around at this time of year.

How about a jumpsuit?

Haha, great minds @TickledOnion!

Thanks. She’s tried one on, it was uncomfortable (not leggings!) so refuses to entertain the idea.

Some black jeggings with a bit of sparkle on and a top with sequins or sequinned bomber jacket. Lots of nice stuff in H&M.

Sleephead1 · 16/12/2019 06:51

Could she just wear leggings but with a smarter top ?

backouch · 16/12/2019 06:53

Some shiny /metallic black jeans and smart top :)

parrotonmyshoulder · 16/12/2019 06:53

She could. She’s got leggings with silver spots. I’ll try a selection of tops.

I’d say the same, leggings and a slightly more special top. Or leggings / black tights with little shorts and top?

SallyOMalley · 16/12/2019 06:58

That's my daughter's uniform! Leggings, shorts over the top, t shirt. It's just goes a bit sparkly at partytime - usually worn with DMs or sequinned baseball boots.

Saisong · 16/12/2019 07:00

My DD at that age would wear a smart pair of tailored shirts and a soft striped shirt with a band collar. A pair of canvass shoes to finish off the look.
It was never remarked upon, even at the girliest of parties.

Saisong · 16/12/2019 07:01

*tailored shorts!

MsTSwift · 16/12/2019 07:01

Jumpsuit? Love those on young girls mil found one in m and s baggy trousered with sparkly top dd looked fab on my 10 year old

Itstheprinciple · 16/12/2019 07:22

My DD had some black shorts with gold thread running through them at that age that she wore over leggings or tights with a jumper with a bit of sparkle on and black boots. I think at 10 they don't necessarily need a party dress in the traditional way. Even black jeans, patent DM style boots and a sweatshirt with a sparkly picture or writing.

scatteredglitter · 16/12/2019 07:29

My DD is similar I find farface kids clothing great for her. It s not always full on party gear but a little fancier.
Plus all of their clothing is soft / cotton - even their denim.

formerbabe · 16/12/2019 07:31

I agree with itstheprinciple that they don't really need a party dress as such at ten. Leggings and a top or jeans are fine...I'd just make sure they're clean, reasonably new and maybe a bit sparkly, colourful or glitzy.

BringOnTheScience · 16/12/2019 07:32

Party leggings with party top is absolutely fine.

My DD refused skirts/dresses from y3. Went to y11 prom in a tux & absolutely rocked it Grin

TheBrockmans · 16/12/2019 07:33

Leggings and a swing dress work well here.

TheForgetfulCat · 16/12/2019 07:56

Moderately girly girl of 11 here and unless it's a very fancy party, leggings and top / T shirt entirely acceptable.

In BLACK. with sparkle if I'm lucky.

macaronip1e · 16/12/2019 07:59

I wouldn’t totally give up on jumpsuits - maybe try others? My dd is similar and we tried a few until we found one she was comfy in (and loves). This was our winner:

(Looks better and more sparkly on than in pics!)
