Weird sleep related things

This has happened a few times so no big deal but the memory of it stays which is unusual for me. I get this feeling of 'leaving' that I have to resist because I know I would die if I gave in. Like I'm being pulled out of my body through my head. There's a noise that I can't describe that happens. I know people do experience strange sleep disturbances and wondered if anyone else had the same one? Or make me feel less disturbed by sharing their sleep weirdness?

Hypnogogic and hypnopompic hallucinations. I get all sorts, from sinking down through the bed to seeing faces and hearing snatches of conversation, hearing my voice called or knocks on the door, 'exploding head' syndrome, flashes of light and colour at a sudden noise...it's a wonder I manage to fall asleep at all, really!

Yep I get this! Usually a week before I'd be due on and if I'm stressed. I also suffer from sleep paralysis.

I might pop back if I can remember when DS has gone to his dad's and tell you some of my tales 🙈 mad what the mind comes up with, with my dreams haha

Actually I'll quickly say what happened in one of my dreams last night, it was a "nice" one for a change
But I have a tendency to be able to talk to myself in my dreams. I dreamt I'd gone to my dad's house and sat on the sofa and my beloved dog who we lost a couple of years ago, came charging in and jumped on me

I kept saying " I know I'm dreaming and this isn't real"
Then I'd told her how much I'd missed her but was so glad she wasn't in pain anymore and thanked her for coming to see me.

After some tummy rubs and lots of cuddles I told her it was my time to go as I was waking up, she gave me one last lick on the cheek and curled up on my lap and I slowly woke up

Ahh I'm tearing up now, but all morning I've been thinking how amazing it was to see her again for a few minutes even though I knew I was dreaming

On the other hand, I don't have many pleasant experiences 🙈 could make a series of them into horror films

Yes! I thought I was the only one who had the being-pulled-through-head sensation and that it must be the precursor to a stroke or something 🙈 and I too feel I have to resist it / fight it.

Thank God for mumsnet clearing that one up.

GrimDamnFanjo · 14/12/2019 10:39

No wonder in times gone by people thought demons were possessing them, seeing ghosts etc. You have my sympathies.

sniffsneeze · 14/12/2019 15:15

@warandpeas Great name! Stroke is exactly what I was worrying about. The first time I had this I had a fizzing sound in my head.

My DD gets sleep paralysis and it would scare the shit out of me. Thanks to those suffering from it and the other sleep issues

I dont get that but I do have audio hallucinations!
Its either what sounds like someone smashing through my front door or I hear my DH talking to me. Both jolt me awake but the first one has me just about having a heart attack at the same time!

missnevermind · 14/12/2019 15:29

I have audio hallucinations. Sometimes it sounds like my Mum calling my name. She died about 5 years ago.
