Anyone have an SCS sofa and know if this is true?

A few years ago we bought a new sofa from SCS, the salesperson warned us that the inside of the cushion covers were coated in an anti-flammable substance and if we got the cushions too wet (ie, by washing them in a machine), the special coating would turn into a sticky, gluey mess.

We've just spot cleaned over the years, as and when they needed it and they've stayed looking pretty good. But we have an 18 month old toddler now and the sofa is looking fairly gross now and the cushions really need a good wash. Will we ruin the covers if we wash them? Should we risk it?

I'm wondering if the salesman told us that just to get us to buy the 4yrs of sofa insurance and care kit...

That's what we got told as well. Got a cleaning kit so spot clean and was told not to wash covers as they had a fire proof retardant on them and it would void our insurance 🤔

We had a DFS sofa with similar. It wasn't that it went a gooey mess but the inside coating flaked off and covered the rest of the wash in bits. The easiest way to wash them was to stick the cushion cover in with nothing else in the machine. The stuff didn't stick to them for some reason. We were at the point where they were yuck so we had nothing to lose. I washed them a few times and they looked great. A tip someone gave me was to put the covers back on the cushion slightly damp as they shrink a bit when drying.

We had planned on replacing it this year but then we put ended up putting a deposit down on a new kitchen instead so the new sofa plan got shelved.

I'm not sure if I want to risk washing them if there's a chance it might ruin them. But they're desperate for a proper wash. I mean look at my seat! Most of that is baby dribble and drink spills. That big patch in the middle is a spot clean that stained for some reason Confused

How about hiring a rug doctor machine with an upholstery attachment? That's what we used and it worked really well. Our sofa looks similar in colour & material to yours.

Can't be worse than what u have now. Looks like u have nothing to lose.

Cool wash, low spin, hang out to dry. You'll be fine👍🏻

We do have a carpet cleaner actually. Could give that a go.
