Labelling uniform

Woeisme99 · 12/12/2019 20:32

The time has come for me to have to label uniform, complete novice, what's best / easiest? Iron on or sew on?
If you've 2 children following each other through school and you have an unusual surname can you just put the surname in? Or am I naive to think uniform ever does 2 children? Grin

grafitti Me too. Grin I also still used a few labels for DD1 at college - coats & hoodies.

grafittiartist · 12/12/2019 21:57

Teen plus- that's great! I feel sad not using them again.
Might make a tiny quilt with them Grin

Why are children taking off their shoes???

Because they can 😂

I got fed up of having to rewrite DS name after every few washes so I bought a stamp and it’s so much easier. A little expensive but worth every penny IMO.

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 12/12/2019 22:11

Label anything you want back. No label risk losing it. Cheaper and less inconvenience to label everything. Otherwise you'll be hunting, resourcing or rebuying.

DelurkingAJ · 12/12/2019 22:13

I label everything except underwear. Other children’s socks vanish in the chaos that is a Reception class changing for PE.

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 12/12/2019 22:13

We have Cash woven sew ins and Easy2Name stick ons.

HotPenguin · 12/12/2019 22:19

Stickons are essential, for those times when you are in a rush and realise they've outgrown their jumper and need the next size up, and you don't have time to sew.

I also use a Sharpie for some items - especially coats because of the cost of replacing if they get lost. My son will sometimes take his coat off in the playground, dump it there, and then leave it when he goes inside Confused

Parttimers · 12/12/2019 22:31

I’m laughing at the thought of an Irish teacher waiting for a junior infant (reception equivalent) class to get changed!! It would be time to go home by the time they were finished PE!! My DD used to finish at 1.20 at age 4!!

louisethedisease · 12/12/2019 22:31

My name tags- I've used this company for years and never had a single one come off or fail. Fantastic

LoonyLunaLoo · 12/12/2019 22:36

Sharpie 😂

rhowton · 12/12/2019 22:36

@DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn wish my surname was Dragon... how flipping cool Grin

minipurr · 12/12/2019 22:36

Stikins if you want to go the job quickly, however they fall off if you wash clothes on a 90 degree wash.

Cash's sew in nametapes if you want to do the job properly. Order the ones with a picture as it's easier for little ones to find their stuff if it's got a flower/train/football on it.
They're not the cheapest ones but they last. I've still got some of my nametapes from when I was in school 20 years ago and I routinely reuse dd's original ones from 10 years ago.

minipurr · 12/12/2019 22:39

If it moves or can be taken off, name it. You would be surprised what gets lost or grows legs.

ByAppointmentTo · 12/12/2019 22:40

I use Easytags, they take just seconds to tag each item and never fall off.

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 12/12/2019 22:45

And, because they are plastic, they will last forever,

lobsteroll · 12/12/2019 22:47

We've got a stamptastic stamp - you can put a picture on too so little ones can recognise their things easier. Stamps on anything, fabric, wood, metal, plastic. Really handy and can do it in a rush too.

I did used to like stickins stickers too and for some stuff they've stayed on great but others they've peeled off. Good for lunchboxes though as doesn't come off in the dishwasher.

Pythonesque · 12/12/2019 22:55

Agree woven better than embroidered better than iron on - we started with a batch for naming clothes for nursery and have only topped up when the numbers of items needing labelling increased (now have teens at boarding school which really really means label everything - though the eldest now does most of her own washing). Cashes generally work out shorter than some of the cheaper embroidered tapes - which means they are quicker to stitch! ++ to labelling socks!
I expect my two will still be using name labels, selectively, when they go to uni.

My old name labels get stitched on some of my own socks now that everyone in the house can potentially share socks. Doesn't stop DH picking them up as his but gives me a chance to get them back!

PurplePuffinPicker · 13/12/2019 07:12

I've got a stamp and it's great for in the morning when they're taking in or wearing something different eg non-uniform day. Can also stamp things other than clothes - shoes, bottles etc.

I have some sew in tags too, as we have home knitted stuff that has no labels but I don't bother using them for most stuff.
