We're off to visit relatives between Christmas and new year in Manchester, any ideas on what to do with three families that consists of adults and teenagers (12-16)

Not ice skating, trampolining or anything sporty! 🤣

Manchester Art Gallery is fantastic.

EggysMom · 12/12/2019 18:26

Manchester Art Gallery
Manchester Museum
Museum of Science & Industry
Football Museum
VIsit the fantastic old libraries (if you are into architecture)
Imperial War Museum
Wander around the Northern Quarter

If you have any transport (or don't mind us suggesting bus/tram) we can list much much more out in the suburbs, such as the Trafford Centre, Bury Market, the tunnels in Stockport (and the Hat Museum) Smile

EggysMom · 12/12/2019 18:26

And what's wrong with trampolining Grin I'm definitely not sporty but it's good fun.

AuntieMarys · 12/12/2019 18:27

Lowry gallery is superb

Boyskeepswinging · 12/12/2019 18:29

Dim Sum for lunch in Chinatown.

Scarletoharaseyebrows · 12/12/2019 18:31

The Football Museum is really good. Surprisingly. I'm not sporty either. Had a really good retro gaming exhibition on last year.
Manchester Museum
Media City / Lowry. (The shopping isn't great at the Lowry however)

The People's History Museum is interesting.

I second the museum of science and industry. They have a flight simulator at the moment.

There are tours of the BBC studios in Salford if they have any running over christmas. They are next to The Lowry which is accessible by tram.

There are several theatres in Manchester, so you could try to get last minute tickets to a show or play.

There are usually Christmas markets in the city centre. Last year there was a winter wonderland with a whole exhibition of ice sculptures.

Have fun

no boyskeepswinging the Yang Sing for lunch!!!

Boyskeepswinging · 12/12/2019 18:41

Oh yes, got to do the Yang Sing when in Manchester!

ForalltheSaints · 12/12/2019 18:48

Lowry gallery and the Imperial War Museum definitely. If they have any interest in steam trains, the heritage line from Bury (East Lancs Railway), depending on which dates you are there.

Ooh thank you - lots of ideas, we've done (and loved) MOSI and the football museum. Going to check out some of your suggestions.

Someone in Facebook has just mentioned escape rooms - has anyone done that? They're quite expensive!!

Have a look on Groupon if you want to do an escape room as they often have deals on

The John Rylands library is absolutely stunning.
The ivy or 20 stories for a cocktail
I second the People’s History Museum, very interesting

There are some brilliant guided walking tours but they may not be on that week
