Will I look like That Parent if I mention this to the school?

DD is an angel and is wearing a costume lovingly handcrafted by Mr Home Bargains Blush Grin

I thought they'd just fling it on over their uniform but they made them take off their shirts and put it on over their vests. The hall was really cold!

Will I look like a nutter/snowflake if I send in a long sleeved vest or ask if she can keep her shirt on?

She'll cope

heartsonacake · 12/12/2019 17:42

Yes, you would be that parent. She’ll be fine.

Mulledwineinajug · 12/12/2019 17:44

Yes, you’d be OTT (and I never mind being ‘that parent’ when it matters)!

When have kids ever put their costume on over uniform?

ThatBloodyCatAgain · 12/12/2019 17:45

Glad I checked Blush

How old is dd?
I’d send mine in a long sleeved vest. Why would the teachers care if your dd kept it on? It’s totally not worth mentioning- teachers have enough to do - but it’s easy to solve.

VodkaRevelation · 12/12/2019 17:50

It won’t hurt to put a long sleeved top under her uniform which she can take off when she gets her uniform back on. If she has told you she’s cold, that seems a sensible option.

Haworthia · 12/12/2019 17:50

I’d send in a long sleeved vest. Can’t imagine anyone thinking you’re precious. I’d rather that than watch my child shiver their way through the performance Smile

Bunnybigears · 12/12/2019 17:51

Presumably she is not doing the play outside therefore she will cope.

Saucery · 12/12/2019 17:52

A long sleeved vest will look better than her school shirt and I don’t see any harm in sending it in as part of her costume. Ime the Hall gets really warm once everyone is in there but that might just be the design of our Hall and others I’ve been in. Church was always brass monkeys and long sleeves were always worn under costumes for those.

shellysheridan · 12/12/2019 17:55

During our Christmas performances the hall always gets boiling hot, despite the fact we turn off the radiators and open the windows. The children are dressed in costumes and underwear only and any children without costumes are in short sleeves and even then they get hot. She will be fine I'm sure.

peridito · 12/12/2019 17:55

Well ,if it were me I'd send her in wearing her long sleeved vest under her uniform .

You sound perfectly sensible and practical to me .

I don't where your hall is but I've worked in primary schools where they've all trekked up to the local church hall .

And today when at the polling station I was watching the local primary school children leaving the church where they'd had a rehearsal . There they all were in the lashing rain with coats not covering their white dresses etc ,many not zipped up and heading off for the walk back to the school .( a 10 min walk for me ) .
At least the teachers had coats ,scarves and umbrellas .

So yeah ,I'd go for a long sleeved vest ,Though I wouldn't talk to any of the teachers or suggest she's allowed to keep her shirt on .

Grasspigeons · 12/12/2019 17:59

Long sleeved vest. This wouldnt register as anything where i work - its really far from that parent territory.

BercowsFestiveFlamingo · 12/12/2019 18:29

It won't be cold once loads of parents and teachers are in there. Our school hall is like an oven during performances.

KellyHall · 12/12/2019 18:32

I agree - long sleeved vest is the way to go

peridito · 12/12/2019 18:34

We need to know more about the hall .Is it in the same building as the school ?

Can we ask for a diagram ?

Scarletoharaseyebrows · 12/12/2019 18:34

Don't ask just send it in! She Will survive in any case.

SallyLovesCheese · 12/12/2019 18:38

Just send in a long-sleeved top. As a reception teacher I wouldn't have batted an eyelid.

yasle · 12/12/2019 18:38

Erm...
If I supply a flimsy costume (it’s white presumably) then I also supply something to go underneath like a white tshirt or something like that.

WorraLiberty · 12/12/2019 18:40

You haven't mentioned your DD at all?

Does she have a problem with it?

LilQueenie · 12/12/2019 18:41

long sleeved top. I understand your concern though. a little bit cold can lead to shivering sometimes. Not nice for little kids who often have no concept of time. It can seem like forever.

TheCanyon · 12/12/2019 18:44

I went to my dc nativity last night, the halls usually roasting but the feckers had opened all the windows. I was freezing in my coat and hoodie. The dc didn't seem remotely bothered, with costumes on over pants. I guess they're too excited to notice.

Her0utdoors · 12/12/2019 18:51

Send her in a long sleeved vest and tell the teacher it needs to stay on. Job done.

Winterdaysarehere · 12/12/2019 18:53

Gaffer tape a hot water bottle to her vest!!

Starlight456 · 12/12/2019 19:00

At our primary there are light over the stage they get very hot.
