Christmas Cards from Pets?

Last night I received a card from my nextdoor neighbours which is lovely, they are nice neighbours and nice people. We get on well although we are not what I would call friends.

The card was signed from Mr Nextdoor, Mrs Nextdoor, Baby Nextdoor and Cat nextdoor. Am I alone in thinking this is a bit odd? It's not being done to humour the cild because their baby is only 8 months old.

I wouldn't ever sign my cards from the cats, and thinking through all my friends and relatives there is only one who I wouldn't think it very odd if they signed from a pet and in that instance it would be part of an in-joke between the two of us.

My mother used to add a paw print from each cat 👀
Lots of people add the cat or dog to their sign off, I suppose they include the pet as one of the family...

SpiderCharlotte · 12/12/2019 13:27

Lots of people do it, pets are part of the family. I wouldn't give it a thought tbh.

Honeybee85 · 12/12/2019 13:28

I always put a paw print too on any cards I sent for birthdays, Christmas etc. My aunt sent me a birthday card and wrote on it to enjoy my special day with DH, DS and the cat. I thought it was nice.

I don’t care if others think it’s silly, those who know me well also know that I see my pets as genuine family members 🤷🏻‍♀️

I once got a spa day as a Christmas present from my inlaw's dog. He also sends a separate 'mummy' and 'daddy' card to them.

soupforbrains · 12/12/2019 13:29

This is the first time I've ever seen it so I was just surprised. Clearly it's a far more common occurence than I thought.

You live, you learn.

@NerrSnerr that does seem a bit too far to me. no?

For the record I have two cats whom I adore and who I definitely consider to be members of my family and make my house a home. BUT, I wouldn't consider adding them to a card, a lot of people on my card lists have never met my cats and/or have only met them in passing, my cats can't write and so why on earth would they sign a card?

Also we have hamsters and fish too, where do those with pets draw the line on which animals sign?

I know some peoe who do but agree it's odd. Too many people seem to treat pets as though they are people not animals. But I suppose it's not hurting anyone and makes them happy.

KatherineJaneway · 12/12/2019 13:34

Am I alone in thinking this is a bit odd?

Hopefully not as people who know my cats get the cats names and a paw print on my cards.

GoGoLego · 12/12/2019 13:40

My next door neighbour does this. It's just her cats are part of her family yabu

LER83 · 12/12/2019 13:54

I do it for immediate family, put cats & guinea pigs names, then just fish for all the fish! Done it for years. Wouldn't do it for anyone outside the family though! When I was younger my auntie used to write me letters from her dogs! I loved it!

Wildthyme · 12/12/2019 14:03

I thought this was going to be about cards from pets and pets alone. Like this.

Feeling a bit mental now... Blush as well as signing cards from us & the cat, we also usually get each other a Christmas card just from the cat, as well as each other.

They are sold in shops so I presume we aren't the only ones buying them Xmas Grin

soupforbrains · 12/12/2019 15:14

I think within a family it's quite sweet

I suppose I just find it odd because I don't know their cat at all, and in fact because their cat has a human name I had to pause for a minute to wonder who it was, before i spotted the little pawprint drawn. @PeachMoon given the responses on this thread I'm clearly in the minority so you certianly shouldn't be feeling mental! I'm obviously just a bit out of touch.

@Wildthyme Grin with my two cats I get plenty of those offerings but am yet to see the day when one of them manages to mount it on a card! Grin

I put the dogs names in cards, but I only send birthday cards to immediate family.

I send one external Christmas card and I don't put them on that one.

joCmummy · 12/12/2019 16:12

I do. Put the horse on all cards to people who know who he is. Then again OHs response to watching frozen was to laugh so hard I thought he'd pee, look at me and say Kristoff and Sven it's totally you and Mr C!

OnlyTheTitOfTheIceberg · 12/12/2019 16:15

I put the pets' names on cards to those friends and family members who have a similarly daft relationship with their pets, but not to everyone as standard.

YorkieTheRabbit · 12/12/2019 16:28

We’ve got two dogs, their names go on cards to family and close friends. We also receive similar cards. I don’t consider it odd Xmas Smile

LilyJade · 12/12/2019 17:39

Well I received a card from Moonpig today with a photo of my cat on the front... and 'I want more catnip for Christmas' inside....

It was a mystery who it was from as anyone could've taken the picture off my Facebook!!

Then my sister text me to say "your cat's good at using the computer" so the mystery was solved!!
