When should you go to GP for DC's spots?

How bad should they be. DD has quite a few on her face - esp. chin area, but they are not too big or bad. But she has started getting them pretty badly on her shoulders. DH has spots as a teen and has some scars con his back. She has a good cleansing regime so must be genetic/hormones.

I think this is fairly common. Id say when her self confidence starts to be effected, or if they're so bad they're becomming infected/painful.

The GP suggest her going on a contraceptive pill or steroid cream

We went when it was starting to affect DD’s mental health
She was prescribed lymecycline, which was amazing but unfortunately you can only have twice. Next step was hormonal contraceptives but they gave her awful side effects so she stopped taking them.
Unfortunately she’s had a huge flare up this week and is really struggling so we might need to go back to the docs

I would go now, the doctor prescribed a wash for my friend's son when he had them on his back.

As a sufferer of adult acne which has led to an intense course of roaccutane - sooner the better. My skin was never "great" which affected my confidence but only got worse. Don't leave it as long as I did.

Go now why wait until it’s more seriously affecting her. GP can prescribe antibiotic creams to help or the pill if you’re happy with that. DH had roaccutane when he was a teen so I expected mine would be likely to have issues but you have to tick the boxes before they prescribe the serious stuff these days.

DS is 17 and he went a couple of weeks ago, having tried endless over the counter stuff. He has been prescribed a cream which is helping, particularly on his back which was awful

GumboDrop · 12/12/2019 09:17

Go asap. It took 2 years of trying various meds before DD was referred for Roaccutane as they want to try all other options first. In that time it got worse, affecting her self-esteem and leaving pitting scars. 5 months on Roaccutane and her skin is clear.

Hi
I was like you really waited to go to see the GP about my 13 year old spots, mostly because she didn’t seem too upset by them. However when we did go the GP was brilliant - they seemed to have guidance on first, second and last steps and really took it seriously. In the end she’s had a couple of different prescription only face washes and a course of antibiotics. We decided against the pill as she is still so young.
Highly recommend going - they also were very supportive.

I took my daughter (15) 2 weeks ago as she was getting upset about her skin. DR prescribed zineryt lotion and recommended we buy cetaphil as a moisturiser as Zineryt can dry the skin. We got the cetaphil from Amazon as was cheaper. The difference in just a couple of weeks is amazing and she's very happy.
