Is anyone else still struggling?

Yup. I was going for the Lib Dems till Jo Swinson opened her mouth on Radio 4 on Monday morning.

aibutohavethisusername · 11/12/2019 22:03

Good to hear that I’m not the only one.

In terms of outcome, it'll either be a Conservative majority or a hung Parliament. I'm dithering too as to which party I'll vote for and I think I'll end up voting tactically as I feel politically homeless right now.

This analysis is good and John Curtice isn't some sort of spinmeister.

Now is the time for tactical voting- there is no perfect party - no perfect leader.
Choose the candidate for the party most likely to keep Johnson out of number 10- it might mean holding your nose and voting for a different party to your normal choice, but right now that is our only choice if we are to avoid a hard right Tory government for the next 5 years.

zemblanity · 11/12/2019 22:17

I feel the same. It's like Sophie's Choice.

Pinkiii · 11/12/2019 22:17

No party is perfect and they all have their lies

You need to think about whats important to you and will be in the next 5 years

Is it brexit being done?
NHS
Schools
Females rights
Climate change

Read their manifestos and see which you agree with the most.

You wont agree with every policy of your chosen party but vote for the one that you believe will benefit you

HerRoyalFattyness · 11/12/2019 22:18

Have you tried voteforpolicies?
It shows you policies and doesn't show you which party it's from. It's quite interesting.

There's also I side with, which gives a good insight too.

It's worth giving them a go and seeing what comes up.

Whattodoabout · 11/12/2019 22:19

Tactical voting if you must, anything to keep the Tories out. They will leave Brexit with no deal which will be absolutely catastrophic, they want to sell the NHS to the Yanks and if you have children in state school search the website ‘school cuts’ to see how much your child’s school funding will be cut next year by the Tories.

aibutohavethisusername · 11/12/2019 22:29

The questionnaires I did all said Green or LibDem.

Some of us are stuck though.I am in a Tory safe seat but our MP was out canvasing yesterday. The first time in my 22 years living in this area.
She gave me all the NHS stuff but got quite funny when she got to the keeping nurses in tat would otherwise leave.I asked how,I stopped her giving a deflecting answer as I am a nurse leaving. She asked what would make me stay,I answered what are you offering. They have no idea, she knew nothing of the 25% drop out rate during training and the poor retention rate.
She told me she had friends who used to be nurses who advised her,I have been a nurse for 40 years and and I know that even 5 years us out off date for what nurses do now.She left when I asked her exactly how she was going to persuade nurses like me to stay.

raskolnikova · 11/12/2019 22:30

It's like Sophie's Choice.

Really? Sophie loved her children. It seems like a reverse Sophie's Choice to me - she wants them both to be taken away by the Nazis, but she needs to choose one to keep.

(Please don't vote Conservative, they are a far right nationalist party now.)

Ihatesundays · 11/12/2019 22:32

Look at this. If you want Tories out, then vote the way that helps.

As a mother of 2 beautiful children I have always Thought of voting for the brexit party.
I want the best for their future and to get this bloody deal over with. We voted to leave so we must be out before This joke affects us fellow mums futures and see Nigel garage to be the only one to get this joke of a campaign Over and done with.Angry

Snufflesdog · 11/12/2019 22:57

I think labours the only obvious choice if you’re not a billionaire and you want your vote to have a big impact - unless you live in an area where Green Party actually stands a chance - I don’t.

You’ll get to make an informed decision on brexit
The nhs will be helped, not privatised
And working people will be helped

There are rising numbers of children in poverty, food banks, nhs staff leaving the nhs and a host of other terrible things.
I’m not sure how anyone can support that and we know quite clearly that the conservatives are not out to help and support those people, as a priority.

I appreciate Corbyn isn’t everyone’s cup of tea and a few weeks ago I wasn’t even going to vote, clearly each party is a joke at the moment
And each politician is acting like an immature jeering school child in a ridiculous argument

But the conservatives just seem to be lying more And their overall views seem to be sexist, racist, homophobic and classist. I know there’s issues in other parties, but it seems to be more about a few bad eggs, rather than the entire culture.
I’m not as eloquent as I’m sure some people are on the subject and I can’t argue my way around experts but any research I have done has failed to find positives for the conservatives that outweigh the negatives.

As far as the Lib Dem’s go, I’ve voted for them several times but overall found them to be quite a ridiculous party with no morals or plans that they’ll actually stick to when it comes to the crunch.

I would vote green if they stood even a slight chance. I do wish we didn’t have a fptp system as it’s not really fair or representative imo

ICouldBeVotingTactically · 11/12/2019 23:24

Kessrobertson, I find your position on Brexit quite intriguing.

I pinched this from another thread (thank you, @Bimbleberries ) because it's so good:

Why not leave it as the status quo until some time in the future when there might be a better-thought-out plan for it all? Either reforming the EU from within, or a leaving plan that is put to the people, without the hectic deadlines of this one?

Brexit is a final, irreversible, one-way ticket into the unknown. It will take YEARS and YEARS to negotiate trade deals with both the EU and the USA. In both cases, the UK is a very inferior partner and we will struggle to get a good deal with either.

Right now, we have easy access to a market of 500m people. If we come out of the EU, our goods will cost more. It's a fact: all countries, and trading blocs, are naturally protectionist, ie, they look after their own. Charity begins at home and all that.

notthenormal · 12/12/2019 00:04

As I don't believe any electioneering and have a slight bias but no strong political allegiance I first thought to vote in raw - as in who do I think will represent me best in parliament
got a 33.3% split on the 6 policies In selected on vote for policies. One party is not standing in my area so I go back to my first thought, I will vote for the candidate that I feel will best represent me in parliament decided by their actions within the community over the past few years
