Sheepskin fluff and birds - nature question.

I've just brushed out a quadruple sheepskin rug and have a large amount of fluff from it. is this safe to put out for birds for their nests? Would they appreciate it? and if so, what's the best thing to do with it for them?

Ball of fluff fits in two cupped hands when squeezed a bit for context. Sames a shame to bin it of birds could add to make nests cosy.

We have a lot of house sparrows nesting under the edge of the roof tiles and also see plenty robins from the hedge/shrubbery.

Fine to do that. In the wild outdoors sheep will scratch themsleves against fences and gates etc and some of their fleeces will come off and will be snapped up by birds. Generally a spring thing but birds need warth in the winter too.

That's good, should i stuff it in chunks into the fence then and they'll spot it and collect it?

The RSPB actually sell it with a terracotta hanging ball with holes in it for birds to line their nests so yes, stuff it somewhere outside where it will keep relatively dry.

Keeping it dry might be more of an issue - we have been in the middle of storm. I'll put my thinking cap on.

I use a bird feeder for dog hair, which seems to keep it dry. They take it more in January-June though so it’s slowed down a bit now.

I fill a bird feeder when my Husky so kindly covers my house with fur...

Meant hair!!

If it was caught on the hedge from sheep it wouldn't be dry. It will be fine wet.
