How often are outstanding schools reinspected by Ofsted?

School was outstanding Spring 16. I thought outstanding schools were only inspected every five years?

I suspect someone has called Ofsted in. Dont really know why but there are a few disgruntled parents and the PTA is asking parents to give positive feedback which I feel is weird. Surely you say as you see it?

Re your comment of people being defensive... we get this a lot at our school and I don't get it. It's like people need their choice of school to be validated and nothing can go wrong. Clearly we all want our kids to be at a great school but we should also speak up if things aren't right!

I am not familiar with ofsted in schools as new to it but certainly in nurseries they can be "called in" if someone reports an issue.

listening MATs aren't exempt from external oversight. Their lead Regional Schools Commissioner and ESFA perform MAT reviews annually.

ListeningQuietly · 11/12/2019 16:59

Gretchen
Where can we read the Commissioner and EFSA reports ?

School near me has really been done in over 10 years.

People pay an extra £50k for a house in catchment (the catchment secondary is also outstanding). Parents want them to retain their rating - they've invested heavily into it.

We bought a cheaper house in a less attractive catchment. Our school is regularly inspected and has climbed from special measures to requires improvement to good in those 10 years.

RunningKatie · 11/12/2019 17:44

Ours hasn't been inspected in over 11 years. Head has changed, staff team churn at a very high rate. It's not a happy or nurturing place.
I absolutely would not recommend it to anyone. I can't wait till the summer and we are done with it.
I just wish dh had listened to me and let me move the dc

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 12/12/2019 17:04

I'm not sure the MAT review minutes are published. I think the oversight is internal only, but it is very thorough (FOI may be your friend)

It should not need FOI.

Local Authority Schools are publicly reported upon
Local Authorities are publicly audited

MATs handle millions of pounds of public money
for which they should be publicly accountable

LeithWalk · 12/12/2019 17:54

Horrendous isn't it Listeningquietly - little accountability at all.

Saltycinnamon · 12/12/2019 18:05

MATs are ofsted visited too.

ListeningQuietly · 12/12/2019 18:10

salty
Where are the reports ?
Not on each school, but on the head office that skims money from every school

NotMeNoNo · 12/12/2019 18:11

Not enough. Our previous school was 7/8 years IIRC. We put in a complaint, but I think it got reinspected anyway recently when the system changed. Unfortunately there isn't a grade for "Nasty".

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 12/12/2019 21:21

The money is accountable- their annual audited accounts have to be published on their websites as part of their conditions of funding. The MAT reviews look more at the efficiency metrics, the governance and leadership and consider contextual info like complaints, Ofsted reports, compliance with funding conditions. If they are issued a financial notice to improve or a termination warning notice, these are published too.

ListeningQuietly · 12/12/2019 21:26

Audited accounts tell you nothing useful
and can be published up to ten months after the event

MAT reviews should be public
MATs should have the same transparency rules as Local Authorities
as they are handling the same money

Audited accounts hide related party transactions
which is the prime area of malpractice

Ohhgreat · 12/12/2019 21:53

Audited accounts disclose all related party transactions Listening, they've got several mandatory notes specifically for them!

ListeningQuietly · 12/12/2019 22:00

ohhgreat
Oh, I know the rules.
And I know how poorly enforced they are and have been.
MATs choose their own auditor
(unlike Local Authorities)

It is disgraceful that companies running state funded schools are not subject to the same scrutiny as councils are

SallyOMalley · 12/12/2019 22:08

Ours was 'outstanding' in its last inspection ... In 2006!

Since then, it's had two changes of head teacher and has joined a MAT.

It is a very good school and my kids are very happy there, but a lot can happen in thirteen years!

Yubaba · 12/12/2019 22:15

The local outstanding primary hasn’t been inspected since 2011, children have gone through the whole school from nursery to year 6 without being inspected Shock.
People pay a small fortune to live in its catchment, and there’s just been a redrawing of high school catchments by the LA and they are no longer in the catchment of the outstanding high school and are now under a school that is in special measures, there has been uproar!

Yubaba · 12/12/2019 22:17

** sorry last had a full inspection in 2007, it had an interim inspection in 2011.

BringOnTheScience · 12/12/2019 22:54

Our secondary last had an interim inspection in 2011. Since then there have been two changes of Head, results have plummeted, and plenty of "sad face in local papers' issues. There's a concerted effort among certain parents to give lots of negative reviews on the Ofsted website in the hope of triggering an inspection.

EvilEdna1 · 12/12/2019 22:59

The primary school mine went to was last inspected before my DC1 went there and he is now nearly 17 and in college.

Walkerbean16 · 12/12/2019 23:29

My children's school hasn't been inspected in ten years since it got outstanding.

LeithWalk · 20/12/2019 22:57

Another 3 inspections in my authority - outstanding 2006; RI now!

dognamedspot · 20/12/2019 23:17

Where does this idea that academies don't get inspected come from? Of course they do. 2 schools in the MAT I work in were inspected last term.

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 21/12/2019 02:35

Ours is 12 years ago now. Totally ridiculous. All the staff have changed but Ofsted stay away as long as the siams inspection (c of E school)is good. But the siams inspection only really looks at things from a Christian viewpoint. It's a good school, don't get me wrong, but there are incidences that have taken place in dad's time there I would call less than outstanding. I really think this is an area that needs reform - 12 years is unacceptable in my view .

ListeningQuietly · 21/12/2019 12:15

Dognsmedspot
MAT headquarters do not get their systems and procedures and controls inspected
and as some of them extract a LOT of cash from the schools

they should be accountable
