I can't stop scrolling.
Facebook, mumsnet, twitter, Instagram, WhatsApp, email, repeat.
It's all bollocks but it's such a strong habit!!
How can I stop?

I do a lot of life admin on my phone too - supermarket shopping, banking. I think that makes it harder to stop.

I really don't know! I’m just the same.

I try and set myself times where I don’t have it, so last hour before bed, in the morning etc. But I don’t always stick to it.

Watching with interest!

I deleted everything apart from WhatsApp, I do use Mumsnet though, I’m getting better but find myself internet shopping/watching YouTube etc now! My phone times gone down a hell of a lot now I don’t use Facebook etc but it’s still not amazing.

I feel like I need a complete detox period but I use it for so many actually useful and productive things. Deleting apps is a good shout.

I've got really bad with it lately and need to stop. It's ridiculous.

You can place a timer on your phone.
Maybe put a amount of time that you feel is acceptable to be on your phone thorough the day. May be 3 hours for the entire day? The timer will flash up when you have reached 3 hours. Of course you can still use your phone after that time but it just makes you aware and may be you will think twice about your useage.

Me too. It’s so bad. And bloody mumsnet is my worst addiction!!!!
My phone is seriously like a limb to me.
Am going to try and leave phone at home tomorrow......

InterstellarDrifter · 10/12/2019 22:27

Me too. All my downtime is on my phone. I’ve been a bit ill this week and I’ve spent all my time on the phone.

ilovebluecheese · 10/12/2019 22:33

I think sometimes when you are ill it is hard to not be on your phone. I suppose it is how you relax when you are unwell. Not much else you can do but rest.
May be watch some TV

Read a book

Audio book maybe

Change the passwords to something really difficult and log out of them all.

Unfollow everything on Facebook (including friends) except for the most boring pages, like NHS Health who post about flu jabs every five minutes.

Make your phone home page blank.

Get yourself an Alexa so you can say, Alexa add xx to my shopping list. It removes the need to go on your phone, therefore reducing the chances of getting sucked in.

I had a long time without mine as the screen broke, that really helped!

All good tips and also - glad to know I'm not alone!!

The hardest thing for me were the emails. I deleted all the apps but fb/twitter etc notify you on email when you get a message or notification for eg. And it would tempt me to click the link from email to sign straight back in. So i disconnected all social media from emailing me too lol. I quit everything except whatsapp and mumsnet and its been over a year now. Nobody believes me as a 21 year old with no social media. My mum especially ( who is completely addicted haha! ) doesnt get how i have done it. But genuinely now ive broken past the want to have it, the thought about having it back makes me so anxious i run away from the thought. I am so at peace now and happy. Once you get past the 'oh your missing out' feeling, its all up from there.
