My ear! Help

Got an ear infection & the pain is horrendous. It's throbbing from my ear through my brain 😭. I'm on antibiotics and taking regular painkillers - what else can I do??! Dr wouldn't prescribe strong painkillers because 'the antibiotics will help' but after 2 days I feel 0% better 😖

I had an awful ear infection this time last year, was in absolute agony, ended up getting tramadol for the pain, please go back to your GP for pain relief, I really do sympathise.

Never had a problem
Done it loads
If the eardrum burst s that’s the infection coming out
Nothing to do with onion

PurpleDaisies · 11/12/2019 17:34

So what do you think the onion does? I think it would be better in a nice soup.

Onion and garlic are some of nature’s best antibiotics..
Yes..have in soup as well
Also make a mixture for colds..bulb of garlic, white onion whizz in blender, pot of organic honey , peeled lemon
Take a dessertspoon every hour...
Stopped dh’s manflu in its tracks

FredaFrogspawn · 12/12/2019 06:01

It certainly wouldn’t spread as no one would want to be within a mile of his breath after a spoonful of that.

Codeine.

FabulouslyGlamorousReindeer · 12/12/2019 06:47

I think the alternating paracetamol and codeine is you can 'top up' on pain relief every couple of hours rather than every 4-6.

You have my sympathy - horrific pain, only just recovered from one.

DonPablo · 12/12/2019 06:56

Have you tried drinking a hot orange or blackcurrant squash? Something about the warm acidic liquid being swallowed can help with ear pain. Until you get back to the doctors.

RhymingRabbit3 · 12/12/2019 06:58

You also don’t need to “alternate” ibuprofen and paracetamol-they’re safe to take together.
The reason people alternate is so that you can take some pain relief every 2 hours rather than waiting 4 hours between doses. I.e. paracetamol at 8am, ibuprofen at 10, paracetamol at 12 etc. Whereas if you took them at the same time you could only have dose at 8 and 12.

Ds has had antibiotics resistant ear infection before. If they swap the antibiotics then it may be better.
If your drum has gone they can take a swab and check.

ifonly4 · 12/12/2019 08:28

When did your infection start OP? I've got an ear infection which started on Friday, still no better despite using treatment and alternating between painkillers. I've got constant humming in my ears and can't hear very well. It's radiating into my teeth, cheek bone and my gum feels sore.

I phoned the doctor again on Monday as no better, was just told I have treatment that can be used for 7 days. Doesn't help I was phoning for advice on an eye infection as well!

Dowser · 12/12/2019 10:15

When I start with a bit of pain in my ear..I put diluted hydrogen peroxide in it.
Dhs grandad was a dentist..they used h2O2 for everything he said.
Mouthwash, wounds etc
Then at night do the roast onion.
And a couple of spoons of the garlic mix
If only 4.. that sounds like the trigeminal nerve is inflamed.
I have a homeopathic Remedy I take for that..of course we all know homeopathy doesn’t work but everytime this old body gets sick..I keep trotting it out...and my body responds and gets better.
Op, I’m sorry you’re in such awful pain..I hope whatever you decide to try, your body responds quickly and starts to heal the infection / inflammation.

^ Yes, of course they are, but as PP have said this method allows a steady intake every couple of hours rather than waiting four hours between doses. Hmm

You poor thing. It’s the most horrible pain. Yes, to lying on a hot water bottle. It was the only thing that gave some relief. Hope you feel better soon.
