Best indoor footwear for DD to wear to nursery when I've read that they're better off without shoes indoors

Everything I've read says that developing feet are best bare or in socks when inside.

DD's nursery that she attends 3 days a week require her to have slippers or indoor shoes with soles so that they can walk on tiled floors and into the toilets for toilet/handwashing. I completely agree that on cold/hard tiled floors and floors that might be wet/dirty that you want them in footwear so I'm not really moaning about this but I'm struggling to know what footwear to put her in when I've read that young children are best off with bare feet indoors.

The other kids all wear slippers but slippers don't stay on DD's very narrow, shallow feet and the lady in a good shoe shop where I took her to buy some slippers for nursery said DD's foot shape really isn't suited to them.

So do I need to shell out on a pair of proper shoes for indoors?

What do others do?

Moccasin slipper sock things. Like slippers with a non slip sole.

How old is she? If she's tiny, you get those special moccasin slipper style shoes for babies. If she's a toddler, just make sure you buy high quality shoes that provide the right support etc. Specialist children's shoe shops can advise.

She's 2.5 and has been walking since 12m so is a fully fledged walker really. She wears Bobux shoes/boots when with me as we'll often go out for walks where she's walking 1–2 miles (obviously with lots of breaks) so I'm trying to invest in good footwear.

She has small feet (just going into size 5) for her age so often shoes end up being for the previous 'stage' of walking.

I don't know if the Mocassin slipper socks would fit the bill as nursery require hard soled shoes/slippers.

Plimsolls if you can find them small enough

myboysandme · 11/12/2019 12:26

What about a pair of Bobux’s soft soles - if they say she can wear slippers then they’ll probably be okay with soft soles? They come in an XL size which I think is roughly a size 5. Or Bobux do their cruising shoes - think they’re called Xplorers - which are super lightweight and flexible so whilst she is already a confident walker, as they’re only for indoor use they might be a good inbetween shoe?

Thanks. I’ve been looking at the Bobux xplorers. They might do the trick. Nursery weren’t satisfied with the thick grippy socks that Jojo do. I’m guessing they want them to be slightly water resistant for going into the toilets.

For now I’ve cleaned her every day Bobux shoes to become her indoor nursery shoes.

It’ll have to be wellies for any trips outside until I get around to getting her winter Bobux boots (tried to get them in October but shoe fitter said to wait a few weeks as the next size up was too sloppy on her foot)

would crocs work?

INeedNewShoes · 11/12/2019 13:26

I don’t think crocs are good for feet and being from a family who all seem to have foot issues I’m trying to set DD off on the right foot (excuse the pun)

I don’t think it’s really true that barefoot is best. That might be the case if walking on natural surfaces like grass or sand but on hard, flat man made surfaces support from shoes is actually beneficial.

Look at vivo barefoot shoes!!

HotPenguin · 11/12/2019 13:34

You don't need proper shoes indoors, plimsolls are fine and very cheap. Clarks do them in different widths with a velcro fastening so that you can adjust tightness.

Invisimamma · 11/12/2019 13:35

Clarks doodles? They also do doodles slippers with a proper sole so more supportive than slippers.
