Can gastritis make you feel sick and like you’ve been punched in the stomach?

I was diagnosed with gastritis quite a while ago and take omeprazole for reflux. But I’ve had several days of feeling really awful, sick, upper abdominal pain particularly in right side. Already had gallbladder removed several years ago but I just feel horrible. I’m wondering if gastritis can cause these symptoms or not.

I have gastritis and it's awful. Best to keep a food diary so you can remove any triggering foods. Cut out dairy too as it's acidic. And the usual fried food, fatty food, alcohol coffee etc. I use a hot water bottle when I'm in pain and try to stay up right. I feel for you 😔

Had it for 2/3 months a few years back, it was horrific,.... I wouldn’t wish it on anyone, I never felt sick with it jus the pain was horrible, i used a hot water bottle and a sat up.

Did you get pain in upper right side? I feel yucky all over my stomach but then it’s interspersed with pain where my gallbladder was. Does any medication help gastritis? I’ve pretty much been left by the gp to manage it myself. Yesterday I tried pepto bismol, omeprazole, buscopan over the course of the day but nothing helped. I’m under huge stress so I’m wondering if stress plays a part.

Yes, I definitely think stress plays a huge part.

I have had periods when drinking a glass of water makes me feel very sick.

Omeprazole is the only thing that helps me at this stage, and sleeping upright Hmm

I don't take anything for it, I believe it just masks the problem. I've changed my diet completely and cut out a lot of foods. Like someone else said I've drank water and had a flare up before too. It sucks. I can't even have McCain oven chips as they set it off for some reason Confused going vegan helped tons and losing weight.
Stress definitely makes it worse.

Does it make you a bit shivery? Not to the extent that a high temperature would cause but just almost chilly, despite heating on quite high.
I felt a bit better earlier then, for whatever reason, started getting pains and nausea again. Just feel rubbish.

Stress is definitely a trigger for gastritis. I was diagnosed 9 months ago and am still finding things which trigger it. Dairy is an issue, especially cheese, also citrus, white bread, alcohol and any fizzy drink to name a few things. I get different symptoms though, stress and citrus cause the pain in the upper stomach, where as dairy now causes a stomach upset and terrible bloating. I agree that vegan foods are very helpful. Although I still eat chicken and turkey, all my snacks are vegan so I can avoid the dairy.

Hope you feel better soon.

I had a lot of back pain when I had mine so was right around the middle area.

Guineapig456 · 11/12/2019 14:39

Can it make you feel so washed out and tired? I have so much stress at home and I cannot face dealing with any of it whilst I’m feeling like I am. None of the medicines (pepto bismol, lansoprazole, buscopan) have helped so far.
