Mum has an appointment with the doctor this afternoon for the results of her tests. I'll be glad when we might get some answers.
She is 84, has hardly ever been ill before. Had her first blood test last year and they had nothing to compare it with as the last time she had bloods taken was 50 years ago
after my younger brother was born.
She has lost so much weight 5st 6lb now. No breathing problems, appetite very good (loves cake), no problems with her tummy or bowels. Ok her memory is not the best.
On the x-ray form it did say asbestosis. Which is what my father died of 20 years ago.
I suppose I just want a hand hold before I go.

Thinking of you both OP. Your mum sounds fab! Cake

Thank you for your messages.
The confusion continues, she is now 5st 3lb. Bloods and x-rays all clear. Water and stool samples all clear.
CT scan is clear. Next will be an MRI scan which she doesn't want. Build up drinks have been increased to 4 a day from 2.

Don't know what else to do. Just a waiting game.

Sorry you didn't get some answers today. Hopefully your Mum will reconsider about the MRI - has she said why she doesn't want one?

Burlea · 11/12/2019 08:50

She is claustrophobic.

Karwomannghia · 11/12/2019 08:54

They can put her to sleep to have one, would that be an option?

AuntieStella · 11/12/2019 09:09

See if she can have Valium for the MRI?

Or promise her an enormous drink afterwards.

If this is the 'neck to knees' sort of scan and as your DMum must be quite thin now, then it might not be too claustrophobic (thinner people have more space round them). Head will be within the tube, but only just. It might help, her to know to expect all sorts of clunky sounds. Also that she might be directed to breathe in then hold her breath for a while (to keep diaphragm as still as possible and in a similar place)

It does sound as if they are doing 'hunt the tumour' as tests have ruled out blood cancers. Try not to worry at this stage (very difficult I know). There are still many, many possible causes, some of which are highly treatable.
