Help!!! Being driven mad by smell

Family member staying with us, likely for another few months. Stays during the week.
At the weekend, i change bedding, wash some of the clothes i find and generally try to air out the room.

But the smell!!! It’s unbearable. Hot sweaty teenage boy smell and it turns my stomach. I have to wash his clothes and bedding separate from anything else otherwise the smell contaminates other things.

Is there anything like an oder eater for a bedroom? Some kind of charcoal product maybe?

I can’t just febreeze the crap out of it every day, that can’t be healthy.

Hé showers plenty, it’s just a smell- not sure if medical but it’s basically destroyed my mattress.

Neutradol? Get a pot and leave it in the room...

I have 2 teenage boys and they don't smell so bad that their washing would affect other things! Confused

KnittingSister · 09/12/2019 22:42

Sodium bicarbonate the carpet overnight, then Hoover in the morning

Ditheringdooley · 09/12/2019 22:55

I bicarbed thé mattress over weekend and hoovered but to no avail. Carpet seems ok, it’s mostly clothes/ mattress as I think it’s just in his sweat.

I think it is genuinely a medical thing. He washes everyday, he just can’t wear clothes more than once otherwise they really smell. It’s something to do with excess something in his blood (but otherwise perfectly healthy). Really bizarre but it’s making me crazy grumpy. I do have a strong sense of smell but my husband doesn’t and even he is bothered by it!

He should see a dr? I have twin teenage boys and they haven't ruined mattresses with their smell 🤷‍♀️

Ditheringdooley · 09/12/2019 23:09

He’s having a stressful time with his degree and I don’t really feel I can say ‘you smell so bad you need to see a medical professional’. His mother has told me that he had this problem growing up and blood tests etc didn’t show anything and it’s not a hygiene issue (obviously if he doesn’t shower for 2 days it’s worse but daily showering doesn’t stop it).

Mattress isn’t ruined just pongy. It’s a cheap foam one which is probably not ideal as they make you sweaty don’t they!

He does also use hairloss treatment, not sure if that is a factor...pills and liquid stuff.

Will look for neutradol in shops Tomorrow. It’s a small flat and whenever I go past his room I want to boak. I feel like the smell is keeping me awake in the room next door!!!!!

I know someone who had this and it was caused by an underlying dairy allergy.

Not sure that helps you, though. Would an air purifier help? Or put some discreetly placed oil diffuser sticks in his room with a fresh clean scent?

Add a capful of Zoflora to any washing of his you do. It is great at getting rid of teen smells.

That Dettol thing you add to the washing removed smells op
