Would this Xmas gift offend you?

I'd be grateful for opinions on this one please.

Money is tight this year, we are getting by but don't have hundreds of pounds to throw at Christmas presents. Throughout the year I have sent off for various samples, with the intention of selling them as a bundle on eBay to raise some money; however, I thought I could potentially save the cost of two gifts by making up gift boxes full of these samples. They are good quality, make up, perfume, hair products etc. and I would buy a couple of bits to go along with. Honestly, would you think I was a scummy person if I gave this to you as a gift?

I'm at work now, on my break, so will check back in morning for replies! Thanks.

I'd like that.

lljkk · 09/12/2019 22:07

I don't use stuff like that so I would think you didn't know me very well... DD uses stuff like that. She'd be happy enough with it all.

Belle89 · 09/12/2019 22:09

No I'd love it. Personalise it a little, favourite drink/snack, nothing flash could be pound shop box of whatever they like.
I'd appreciate the time and thought gone into gathering a few bits rather than the cost of the items.

I did 30 presents for a 30th birthday including bits like this and she loved it! Go for it!

MsChnandlerBong · 09/12/2019 22:10

Will quickly add, the two people in thinking of doing this for are very into make up and pampering and that kind of thing.

I would LOVE something like that OP. What a good idea, I may steal it Grin

ParkheadParadise · 09/12/2019 22:11

I'd be very happy with it.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 09/12/2019 22:11

I’d think a box of what will clearly look like samples was a bit off tbh.

I wouldn’t want it

MsChnandlerBong · 09/12/2019 22:11

Thanks for replies! Will have to check back in morning as I'm due back on shift Smile

I think it depends on whether the intended recipient would like them? The idea itself isn't a bad one. Some people would, some people would think you don't know them at all. All depends on the person.

HuggedTrees · 09/12/2019 22:12

I would think it was a lovely gift

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 09/12/2019 22:13

I think that’s lovely. I get the samples and use them in Christmas crackers.

user1471449295 · 09/12/2019 22:20

My son went round and got samples and gave them to me one year. I absolutely loved it, however I would think it’s a little weird receiving from an adult, sorry

Clammyclam · 09/12/2019 22:21

I would also love it
I agree add 1 maybe 2 hints personal to the recipient (I would like a pen and notepad for example- which could be bought from
£1 shop)
Sorted

Babysharkdoodoodood · 09/12/2019 22:21

I do this every year. Collect samples, things from beauty boxes that aren't for me, little things I spot out and about. My stepdaughters have been getting them for the last 10 years and still check to make sure I'm doing them. My mum gets one, with anti ageing stuff. I did cheat a bit this year, as there was a sale on Pilgrim jewellery and it was 3 for 2, so got 6 x £30 necklaces for £30. Then bought little purses on eBay and popped them in as an extra surprise.

Saved up old boxes through the year and spent yesterday afternoon doing decoupage on them.

My Mum's is the one on its own.

Great idea!

I used to get a Look Fantastic beauty box and you can buy them individually for about £15. I always thought they'd make a great gift for the right person. Your idea is more personalized so all the better 👍

Ohyesiam · 09/12/2019 22:31

It’s the sort of thing I’d love, but if the recipients are into status type presents they might be disappointed.

EskewedBeef · 09/12/2019 22:31

I'd feel guilty and a bit embarrassed receiving that. I'd hate the thought that my friend or relative felt they had to give me something, when I'd rather they looked after themselves first. I wouldn't think it was scummy at all, but I'd feel awful for having made someone feel they had to do that.

I wouldn’t like it. I’d feel a bit...I don’t know...insulted. I’d rather have nothing than a collection of free things, I think.

I’d like it!

Beansandcoffee · 09/12/2019 22:44

I would love it and be pleased that you hadn’t wasted money on buying me something when money is tight.

MaggieFS · 09/12/2019 22:47

I wouldn't be keen, but I'm not adventurous about trying new stuff and have eczema so I have to be careful. However, nothing against the principle and think it's a lovely idea to make a box up, as long as you know it's their kind of thing.

TheBigFatMermaid · 09/12/2019 22:48

Oh yes please!

I love products but have sensitive skin, this would be an ideal gift for me, as I could work out what is good or otherwise and not spend money doing so!
