Water...I take it for granted as our country is away with it

Watched a couple of episodes of the Himba tribe with scarlett Moffat and the long trek the women had to fetch water and even when they got there, they had to dig
Last night there was a short programme on RT , I don’t know which country, but the women were wearing beautiful saris and a man had three wives.
The first wasn’t able to do all her chores because of her long trek for water each day
So he married another woman, who was ill and couldn’t do it, so he married a third to help out
He didn’t look like a particularly rich man either

I’ve never been to any country like this so have never seen anything like this.
Even this hot country I’m in at the moment where it doesn’t rain much
Water , thankfully flows freely out of the taps.
It made me aware how much is wasted though.
Just running the tap till I got warm water on the flannel got me thinking a couple of litres must’ve gone down the sink.

The question I think I’m asking is, is trying to conserve water in our country pointless when we have so much of it.

Any other thoughts are welcome.

Conserving water is always a good thing. It may seem like we're awash with water in the UK but we aren't.

South East England water supplies are under a lot of stress due to high population and low rainfall.
Obviously there is more water available per person in high rainfall/low population areas such as Wales or North West England. But moving water round the country is difficult and would be expensive.

Water demand is increasing due to lifestyles and population growth but climate change will mean we have less of the frequent longer periods of rainfall and more of the short, heavy downpours which don't really help with water supply as the water just runs off into rivers and into the sea, meaning groundwater supplies don't get replenished.

Cut down your shower times, get a water butt for your garden, don't run the tap when brushing your teeth, are all simple ways to save water.

Our water comes from a natural underground reservoir in the north east
As much as I admire your suggestions I don’t think it will help anyone in the south
I never had to water the garden this summer, that’s how much rain we had.
Yes it’s a shame it just runs off into the sea.its a shame water from dishwashers, washing machines, showers etc can’t be saved commercially...grey water is it..but I’m not sure we need it
