Do you take your kids on days out in the run up to Christmas? Anywhere they have really enjoyed?

I have to. I have 3 dc, all with ASD, and the eldest in particular cannot stay in all day - we just have to get out of the house and do something.

I have all sorts planned - from ‘normal’ stuff like last minute Christmas shopping to standard trips to cinema-bowling, and then a few bigger days out like Panto and we have a trip to a show in London too.

On top of that the dc will be seeing Father Christmas with their dad, and I’m sure he has stuff planned too - it just isn’t possible for dc1 to stay in all day, so we have to come who with something to do!

Not really. We go out most weekends anyway. I do have a mental list for some stuff to do when they're off though.

Thanks all

Anyone been to Legoland at Christmas ?

I took mine a couple of years ago.

It was ok - crowded, as always, and not all rides running. We did use a ride access pass, which does help, but as ever there’s no access pass for the queue to Father Christmas.

The Father Christmas was good, and (unsurprisingly) the dc all got a Lego/duplo toy. It seemed a shame that the Lego set was the same one for siblings - having a couple of different ones would have meant better play value (my two older ones got the same set, and the younger one got duplo).

It’s very cold and windy at legoland - wrap up warm if you go, was absolutely freezing when we were there. The dc all enjoyed it

Isitme- thanks for that

My kids break up on 20th and from then on we will be in. Have four dc and have had 2 ill up to now so tbh I'm just glad when I can close the door on everyone else's snotty, buggy kids and try to get mine well again. Every year for several years now, my kids manage to stay well for over 90% of the year but come down with humdingers the last two weeks of school.
I allow them to play out, we have land too and they help their dad at work so it's not like I lock them up. But I knock the big days out and play dates on the head.

Nice that you got land

Yes. Not loads because we can't afford it but we go to the local fairground/winter wonderland thingy. There's also a Christmas event at our local country park that we're going to this year. We've done Christmas light switch ons and pantomines/Christmas/santa train rides too in the past. I don't pressure myself though. We had a walk to nose at everyone's lights yesterday which the kids enjoyed. We'll also make a gingerbread house (from a kit!).

Yes, we eve go out on Christmas Day! We live on the coast and our town does a Christmas Day swim (we go to support at the moment) and the cafe by the beach does free mince pies with mulled wine or hot chocolate!! It’s a great part of the day!!

DinosApple · 09/12/2019 16:42

We tend to do one thing at the weekends. We've done a Christmas market, day at the beach with chippy tea, we'll see Santa and go on a long walk. Christmas Eve we'll pick up the turkey and go on the gallopers in town. No panto this year as it's too pricey.

They break up on the 19th and this year is the first year me and DH have all the holidays off with them. fingers crossed no D&V.

We haven't done much at weekends yet, apart from a couple of fetes & a Christmas Tree festival at the village church, as I've been working both weekend days & DH has been at football with DS1. There is also a lot going on during the week, with Carol services & parties etc.

However, we are going to start doing a few things now. We always look round a nearby farm park that sets out a nativity scene. We are going ice-skating at the weekend. We have a couple of parties planned. We're also planning to go to London for the day, to see the lights & walk the Snowman trail on London Bridge. We're going to the panto on 27th, for the first time (DS1 will be 11 but we haven't had enough money before)

Thanks everyone

yes something everyday I usually go to all the free events and take my girls to look at the lights, plus crafty/baking activities indoors. plus a cinema visit, last minute shopping and going for hot chocolate and cake.

but this year I'm having keyhole surgery on the 19th so unsure how well I'm going to be to do all the usual activities.... Christmas dinner will be fun, dh can only manage to cook chicken nuggets and chips 😂
