How can I be a good host?

We're having some of DH's relatives to stay in a couple of weeks' time, and I want to make sure that they have everything they need.

We have two guest rooms, which will obviously be clean and tidy. I thought I would leave a bath sheet each (different colours) on their beds. I have thought of a glass/bottle of water/tissues beside the bed. There is a bedside lamp and plenty of plug sockets in both rooms. They will also have a TV and mirror.

What haven't I thought of?

We don't often have guests, and as I don't know them well I would like them to feel comfortable. Thanks for any tips!

Please can I come to stay? You sound wonderful x

I always leave water and a glass because my elderly guests usually need to take pills.
A decent bedside light. Nothing worse than trying to read by the light of something heavily shaded and dim.
A few magazines, or other light reading material, in case they can't sleep!
A clock.

Tell them whether to flush the loo at night or not. This always confuses me at other people’s houses.

Unless there's a serious plumbing issue I don't think it's on to expect guests to be comfortable not flushing the toilet in someone else's house.

Why wouldn’t you flush the loo at night?
I must say, no one in our house gets up to go to the toilet in the middle of the night (ie waking up from sleep to go to the toilet) but I will often go before bed at about 11. I’ve never not flushed the toilet!

And also, to echo a pp, no need to go overboard. Clean and comfortable bedding, plug sockets for their chargers/hairdryers (that they will have bought themselves if needed) and a bin would be all I really needed. You’re not a b&b, no need to be providing baskets of toiletries, dressing gowns, kettles and snacks in rooms etc.
Presumably they will have access to the house if they need anything.
