Any tips for warming up a freezing house?

We just moved into our first house. We knew it like be cold because the survey highlighted how old and pants the windows and doors are so that’s first on our list, but while we are deciding what style to go with and getting a quote for that to be done in January, I’m looking for any tips.

I’ve got some of that thermal cling stuff which will work on a few of the doors but not all the windows due to where the fastenings are.

I’ve ordered some thermal curtains for the patio doors, bay window and internal door that leads out onto the porch.

We have a log burner so making sure we have plenty of wood.

The heating system is pretty good all the radiators Chuck out a decent amount of heat but it’s a three floor house, so with the poor insulation, hard to keep the heat in.

Am I missing anything obvious?

Thick curtains, rugs and carpets, draught excluders. You can get insulation tape that you stick around external doors so there's no draught.

Put polystyrene insulation tiles and tin foil behind the radiators so the heat is reflected back into the room and doesn;t get soaked up by the walls.

When you finish cooking, leave the oven door wide open to release heat into the house.

Lag the loft if it's not done already.

@Trewser of course not, I’m trying to retain the heat for longer precisely so I don’t have to have the heating on in the house the whole time. I’d just like it to be a comfortable temperature

@Bellasblankexpression it was fairly easy for us as we changed the controller and it came with a WiFi connected thermostat which we put away from the log burner and it seems to keep the radiators on the other rooms.

Is there a door to the stairs to the loft conversion?

Have you thought of fitting a thermal curtain between the 2nd floor and the 3rd floor, possibly on the stairs. My friend did this and it made a massive difference.
She wasn't using or heating the top floor of her old house and was loosing a huge amount of heat to an old attic conversion job.
Roof insulation can also make a huge difference.
