Divan vs wooden slats?

Looking into getting a new bed and I've always had wooden slatted bed frames. Is a divan better? What's so great about it?

People say divan is more comfy, but I have allergies too and worry about all that fabric and dust mites, is it worse for allergies?

We just bought a new bed and mattress so did a fair bit of research. We went for slatted with legs because I couldn't imagine not cleaning underneath regularly, especially with allergies. For us, having space to get the hoover underneath is important.

Bear in mind that any mattress will be a bit softer on slats than a divan so go for slighter firmer if you buy a new mattress too.

I have had a wooden slat bed (ikea) for 13 years and it is super comfortable and there has been no breakage despite a reasonable amount of action and multiple house moves
Divans weird me out but I can’t tell you why!

Thanks guys, I've decided to stick with wooden slats as I like the breathability around the mattress aspect - seems healthier, plus easy to keep dust free.

I have flashbacks to those horrible frilly valance things people had in the 80s!

What do you mean in the 80s?! I just replaced the one on my childhood bed for mum; she couldn’t find the right colour in Asda (2 colours only). Ebay is my friend.

I never broke any slats despite being a big person. I do find them a pain as the slats move and occasionally need moving back. Our bed is a divan, I like the integrated drawers, but I think I can fit loads more under the slatted bed, now in the spare room.

What do you do about headboards? The main reason we opted for a divan this time is because I like sitting in bed and the wooden and metal slatted frames all had uncomfortable built in headboards. The divan at least has the option to buy a padded headboard.

Watching

Need a guest bed and last weekend it was very hard to make an informed decision around the Black Friday hype.

What do you do about headboards?

pillows, that's what the round yoga pillows are really for.

See, I’m the only one that really uses pillows - everyone else insists on just one!!!! When we were on holiday last, the cottage had a wooden headboard that jutted out at the top - awful for sitting on.
