People who drink/have drunk alcohol

Have you all had that time times where you went too far?

I was just pondering, does everyone do it, or do some people just have a few drinks and then stop every time and never go over the top, ever?

I used to drink a lot in my teens and 20's - non drinker now for a good few years but I got completely hammered, sick etc many many times idiot

DH on the other hand only ever took it too far once, when he was 17. Now he has a few pints and stops.

DD was really sick after drinking too much vodka one night when she was 17 so I was just thinking, I wonder if she will be like DH or myself - so far she hasn't done it again and it was a couple of years ago, she looks like she is following in her dads sensible footsteps thank you Grin

I have emetophobia so that has always limited how much I drink. I’ve only ‘forgotten myself’ once - party situation where people keep buying drinks and lost count

TheNestedIf · 07/12/2019 00:12

Exactly the same as LittleTopic as I'm also emetophbic. In my case it was a lavish works party where there were many open wine bottles on the table and my glass kept getting refilled. I couldn't calculate by how much was in the bottle or how much was in the glass how much I'd had.

I've been sick after drinking twice in my life (and I'm old, in MN terms)
I've never passed out
I've never staggered around slurring words etc
I've never 'not remembered' the night before, in the morning.

I've never understood the appeal of getting hammered like that. I can't see the appeal of getting more than 'a bit giggly' or 'relaxed' stage, tbh.

I have one or two and stop. I just have an off switch.

I don’t about chocolate though!

I was 16, I had lots and lots of shots of vodka on an empty stomach. I went for a wee (in the toilet thank god), stood up, pulled my skirt down and passed out. I woke up in a pool of vomit, and could barely move for 2-3 hours. I was in a terrible state. Thankfully, my lovely DP stayed with me the whole time. Eventually got a lift home, smoked some weed and then went to sleep.HmmConfused

Never again.

I think it depends on the individual and how they cope. I drunk loads for years (at and after uni) and never had any issues. DD didn't make it to her formal and was driven home in a LIDL bag. Everyone's different.

MarySidney · 07/12/2019 00:39

I've been hungover. Worst was after some home brewed red wine. Could barely lift my head off the pillow the next morning. But have never been sick or completely out of it. Think it's a combination of a reasonably hard head and knowing when to stop. Quantity that leaves me merry then hungover night make another person ill.

Don't normally drink on an empty stomach, either.

Horehound · 07/12/2019 00:41

16 to 28 I drank far too much. I've been really lucky actually after finding myself in bad situations.
Still drink a bit but I'm sensible now at 33

StylishMummy · 07/12/2019 00:47

I've been truly leathered once in my life, and the next 3 days were terrifying as I'd so clearly poisoned myself. Not even a sip of water would stay down, I could barely breathe and felt extremely close to calling 999 due to the extreme shakes and neck pain.

Never ever again.

I like a drink occasionally but absolutely know my limits

GoGoLego · 07/12/2019 00:50

I'm blessed with a mechanism which means I know when I've had enough . Like I won't finish a glass of wine if my body says it bough is enough

But this breaks once or twice a year when n get sloshed . Leading to 🤢 but experience means I know that things like watching a movie or food reduces the chances of this happening

Titsywoo · 07/12/2019 00:57

I drank way too much between the ages of 15 and 23 then after having my kids and the baby/toddler years ended up getting a bit too much into drinking from 30 to 38. I don't drink much nowadays - not worth the hangovers and I've done and said too many stupid things over the years. Once i passed 40 I mellowed and just don't fancy it anymore.
