Are kindles any good for children? If so, which one is the best? I'm a bit overwhelmed with all the options on amazon. Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

E-reader or tablet?

sleepismysuperpower1 · 06/12/2019 19:23

do you want one just for reading books or for apps as well?

fannyanney · 06/12/2019 19:27

Just for reading books. He has enough other tech so I'd like something that is app free! Are there other E-readers available? I only know of the amazon kindle. But ideally something with lots of books/subscription service or reasonably priced e-books.

There is a child's version of kindle which comes with a subscription to kids books but from reading reviews it seems to give free copies of first books of series e.g. Harry Potter and then you pay for the rest of the series. So my Ds has the cheap normal kindle and I buy books as and when. With the new front light it is fine (I have a paperwhite that I love but unnecessary now)

Thank you, that's really helpful. Are the books reasonably priced?

In essence yes.
Keep an eye on them as they go up and down. E.g. I bought a set of 10 dragon books the other day for £7 total.
But sometimes they cost as much as the print edition.
If you go on amazon you can either search for just kindle books or search for a book and then change the type to kindle so can compare the print price to the kindle price.

Oh,if your child is heavy handed I think the child version has a long insurance included in the price?
