DH and i are off to town today to visit relatives, shop and have lunch, i have just realised that DH hasn't left our tiny village fo 21 days. He has been to our village pub, his potting shed and barn and has a daily walk around the village ( 10 minutes max) but that is it. I would go stir crazy. How long can you spend at home before neediing to escape ?

I can happily stay at home and only have walks and running errands in my small town forever.
Having lived in London for a decade I have no desire to be in big cities.

Literally weeks. I wfh and do all my grocery shopping online so rarely “need” to go out. After 30 years of early starts and long days, raising DC and commuting/working, I’m really enjoying it! I just never get that feeling of “oh I have to get out somewhere”. I’m always glad to get home if I do need to go out! I do go away a fair bit and those trips always involve a lot of walking so that is my time when I’m out and about. So when I’m at home I’m happy to stay there.

We used to have a very busy lives and he was on the go for up to 18 times a day, we sold both businesses downsized and relocated to Scotland to enjoy a very early retirement. For the first few years we really explored Scotland but now even though he is only 60 he just likes to plod around his yard and garden and pop down the road to the pub a few times a week for a couple of pints. He will only go abroad once a year and on holiday in the U.K a couple of times a year for no more than 5 days. do all older men hermits ?

Sounds like he’s enjoying retirement.
If it bothers you, just take him to lunch/dinner/event once a fortnight.

I once didn't leave my house for 7 and a half days. I wasn't ill, I was just on annual leave and pottering around.

AutumnRose1 · 06/12/2019 13:27

Funnily enough, I once didn’t lease my local area or socialise for the exact same period of time.

It was the best 21 days of my life. I only interrupted it to visit my parents. Without that, I think I’d have hit 28 days.

I live in a flat so I did go out for walks, but I didn’t have any social engagements at all.

Hermitry is wonderful; the chance to do it is rare. He lives with you though, so can’t be described as a hermit.

*lease? Leave!

MrsJonesAndMe · 06/12/2019 13:40

I have to get out daily, but sounds like he is getting out!

He’s getting out though.

Honestly, if it wasn’t for the school run and having t drag myself to work two nights a week, I’d never leave mine.

NorthEndGal · 06/12/2019 16:01

I split my time between the beach and the house, I dont really need much else

TheCanyon · 06/12/2019 19:18

It'll be three weeks tomorrow since I last left our tiny town, before that it was early September for an exam. In the last month I'd say I've only been up town once a week for dc swimming lessons. Only time I really go out is on the school run.

I'm quite happy working and pottering about the house.

lowlandLucky · 06/12/2019 23:28

I can go about a week then i need to get out to the beachm maybe we have too many hills surrounding us
