Gift ideas for a friend with 2 broken wrists

A very good friend of mine has broken both of her wrists and has had a rough few days (bike fall). She is one of the nicest and most thoughtful people I know and always sends the loveliest of messages and cards to all of her close friends. I'd love to cheer her up a wee bit. Does anyone have any ideas of what would be a nice gift? I thought a facial - but maybe that's a bit crap as both arms are in casts so she may not like the idea until she's a bit more up to it. It's tricky as most things I'd normally send require healthy wrists!! She will likely be bored silly so I wanted something that would relieve the boredom.

Any ideas wonderful MN crew?

Netflix?

You are a sweet friend. When DH's friend was in hospital with a broken jaw after an accident, DH brought him a bag of toffees. The bastard. Friend did think it was funny though.

A straw? Sorry, I would get her some audio books or as other poster suggested Netflix. She will probably appreciate help around the house rather than a gift. Washing and ironing. Maybe pay for her ironing too be done, or a cleaner?

Audiobooks or DVDs? Or just an hour's help with things she can't do for herself/round the house maybe? Although it sounds like you might not be local, in which case that wouldn't work (or can you swing a visit to give her some company?).

This happened to one of my university friends - she needs one of those very cheap, tacky key rings that is a key ring on the end of a very long coiled plastic cord (like an old school landline telephone had) and the other end clips to your belt. Because otherwise you spend all your time dropping your keys and kneeling up and down sideways trying to pick them up again.

Ha x-posts London, great minds!

Alexa or Google Home speaker?

TheQueenSnortsAvocados · 05/12/2019 21:35

@powershowerforanhour my first thought was knitting needles, so pleased to see I'm not the only meanie!

GoldfishGirl · 05/12/2019 21:38

Echo Dot?

ThomasRichard · 05/12/2019 21:42

Depends on your budget but some of those remote plug switches that can be turned on and off by your phone/Alexa/Google Home would be really useful.

RevengeOfTheReindeer · 05/12/2019 21:44

Socks with separate toes so she has more flexibility to pick things up. I'm also a meanie!

A voucher for hair wash and dry

Whatsnewpussyhat · 05/12/2019 21:49

A manicure?

I broke my arm and wrist (left arm, left handed). I feel so sorry for your friend, it was such a hinderance and so annoying, cant imagine both arms out of action. Some ideas, electric can opener...voucher for hairdressers for hair cut that requires no maintainence, electric toothbrush, slip on footwear, easy on trousers/tops......flowers for you and your friendFlowers

bengalcat · 05/12/2019 21:56

A blow dry

PartyintheKitchen · 05/12/2019 22:03

Thanks for the ideas! Some good ones here.

She already has knitting needles and a back scratcher Wink - she has a great sense of humour so I'm not worried about her taking something the wrong way. I live the other side of the country and can't easily go see her this month so popping in to help isn't possible. She's staying at her mum's for a few weeks so she has loads of tlc on tap at the moment thankfully.

I love the idea of a trip to the hairdressers, that would go down well as she likes her hair done.

She has Netflix but I'll look into Alexa, I'll happily stretch the budget for her.

Thanks again Star
